The Philadelphia Eagles are deep in the hunt for their next offensive coordinator, and it's turning into one of the most intriguing coaching searches of the offseason. This is a high-profile gig - not just because of the team’s recent success, but because of the offensive firepower on the roster and the expectations that come with it. And while a few big names have passed on the opportunity, the Eagles are still casting a wide net, and their list of candidates includes some familiar faces with serious credentials.
At the top of that initial wishlist? Former Giants head coach Brian Daboll and former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.
Both are known for their offensive creativity, and both reportedly turned down the Eagles’ advances in favor of other opportunities - or at least the possibility of them. Daboll is said to be eyeing the Bills’ head coaching job, and if that doesn’t materialize, he could end up as the Titans’ offensive coordinator.
McDaniel, meanwhile, has his sights set on Baltimore. But if the Ravens go in a different direction, he’s expected to join Jim Harbaugh’s staff with the Chargers.
So, where does that leave the Eagles? Still with a strong pool of candidates - and some momentum building around a potential favorite.
The team has already interviewed several notable names, including Zac Robinson (most recently the Falcons’ offensive coordinator), Josh Grizzard (formerly with the Buccaneers), Bobby Slowik (who coordinated the Texans’ offense), Mike Kafka (recently with the Giants), and Jim Bob Cooter (currently with the Colts). Each brings a unique offensive background, but one name stands out - Matt Nagy.
Nagy’s connection to the Eagles runs deep. He got his NFL coaching start in Philadelphia back in 2008, working as a coaching intern under Andy Reid.
From there, he climbed the ladder, spending five years in various offensive assistant roles before following Reid to Kansas City in 2013. With the Chiefs, Nagy served as quarterbacks coach and eventually offensive coordinator in 2016 and 2017 - years that helped set the foundation for what would become a juggernaut offense.
That success earned him a head coaching job with the Chicago Bears in 2018. Over four seasons, Nagy posted a 34-31 record, made the playoffs twice, and even took home NFL Coach of the Year honors in his first season. After his time in Chicago, he returned to Kansas City in 2022, where he’s been part of a staff that’s won two Super Bowls in the last few years.
What makes Nagy an appealing candidate for the Eagles isn’t just his résumé - it’s the continuity he could bring. He knows the Reid system inside and out, and his experience working with quarterbacks could be a major asset in maximizing Jalen Hurts’ potential. He’s coached in big games, handled high-pressure situations, and understands what it takes to guide a team with championship aspirations.
The Eagles are clearly looking for someone who can step in and command the offense from day one. With Daboll and McDaniel likely heading elsewhere, Nagy’s combination of familiarity, experience, and recent success could make him the right fit at the right time.
The search isn’t over yet, but keep an eye on Nagy. He’s not just a name on the list - he might be the one who ends up calling plays in Philly next season.
