Chris Olave’s Week 6 availability is up in the air after the New Orleans Saints wide receiver sat out Wednesday’s practice with an illness.
The Saints listed Olave as a non-participant as they opened prep for Sunday’s road game against the New York Giants, and they have not yet given him a game-status designation. That leaves his status unresolved for now, even as New Orleans looks to shake off a 23-13 Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Olave caught four passes for 46 yards in that defeat, but he’ll be a major storyline to watch as the week goes on. New Orleans is set to keep updating the picture with practice reports Thursday and Friday before heading to MetLife Stadium.
He wasn’t the only Saints player to miss Wednesday’s work. Linebacker Kaden Elliss was held out with a calf injury, edge rusher Anfernee Jennings sat due to a knee issue, and defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd also did not practice because of an illness.
The injury report had several other names on it as well. Running back Alvin Kamara was limited by a back injury, while defensive tackle Vernon Broughton (illness), edge rusher Tyree Wilson (ankle) and defensive tackle Colby Wooden (toe) were all limited too.

There were also a few encouraging signs. Quarterback Tyler Shough practiced in full despite being listed with a left-hand issue, and long snapper Zach Wood (calf) along with guard Jeremiah Wright (concussion) were full participants.
NewOrleans.Football’s Mike Triplett shared both teams’ Wednesday injury reports on X, formerly Twitter, including Olave’s absence and the rest of the Saints’ injury picture.

Saints Offense Just Turned Up The Pressure On Kellen Moore
The Saints latest home loss came with the offense stuck in reverse again, and this one was especially hard to ignore for Kellen Moore. Against Minnesota, New Orleans managed only 142 total yards while Tyler Shough went 16 of 25 for 96 yards, a night spent mostly trying to survive the Vikings constant heat rather than settle into any sort of rhythm. It was the kind of performance that leaves little margin for optimism, especially for a team already searching for answers after a rough start.
Minnesota never let the Saints get comfortable, turning nearly every passing series into a test of protection and poise. New Orleans has now dropped three straight at home and sits at 1-4, with the offense offering too little resistance when the game demanded a response. For a staff looking to find traction, the pressure is only building from here. [Read more 🡒]
Kellen Moore Just Sent The Saints Roster A Brutal Message
The Saints latest roster move landed with the kind of blunt force that usually follows a bad week, not just a bad play. Jayden Price was released two days after his kickoff return fumble against the Vikings, and the timing made the point louder than any locker-room speech could. In a season where every detail is being weighed, Kellen Moores decision read as a reminder that effort and attention matter just as much as talent.
For New Orleans, the message goes beyond one players miscue. The staff is trying to push urgency and cleaner execution across the roster, and this was a clear example of accountability carrying real consequences. It is the sort of move that can steady a team if the response is right, but it also leaves no doubt about the standard Moore wants the Saints to meet. [Read more 🡒]
Saints Still Have One Tyler Shough Issue Worth Watching Closely
Tyler Shough was back to full participation at Wednesdays practice, a good sign for a Saints offense that has already had to keep an eye on multiple absences. Even so, the rookie quarterback still drew some attention by working with a glove on his left hand, something he described as a precaution while he continues to feel better.
For New Orleans, the setup is less about whether Shough can practice and more about how the hand holds up once the reps start to matter in a game setting. With Chris Olave, Kaden Elliss, Anfernee Jennings and Nathan Shepherd among the players missing practice because of illness or injury, the Saints are trying to manage several moving parts at once, and Shoughs hand remains one of the quieter details worth monitoring.
