Kellen Moore's inaugural season as the head coach of the New Orleans Saints was a challenging one, wrapping up with a 6-11 record. However, there were glimpses of promise, particularly in the performance of rookie quarterback Tyler Shough.
After a rocky start, Shough and the Saints found their rhythm late in the season, winning four out of their last five games. This late surge has given the team a bit of momentum heading into the offseason.
Veteran defensive end Cam Jordan is optimistic about Shough's potential to become the franchise quarterback that New Orleans has been searching for. "I'm hoping so," Jordan shared with TMZ Sports.
"I think with him there could be a bright future. Hopefully, we continue to build upon that process that we showed last year."
Could Shough be poised for a breakout in his sophomore season? With another offseason to immerse himself in Moore's offensive system, there's plenty of reason to believe in Shough's upward trajectory.
In his rookie year, Shough posted a 5-4 record as a starter, amassing 2,384 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and six interceptions. While those numbers are solid, there's room for growth.
As the offseason unfolds, the Saints need to focus on surrounding Shough with the right talent to help him thrive. If they succeed in doing so and Shough continues to develop, the Saints might just surpass their six-win mark in 2026. In the process, they could very well find the franchise quarterback they've been hoping for.
