New Orleans is bracing for a stretch without Cam Jordan, and maybe more than a stretch. Saints coach Kellen Moore said Tuesday the veteran defensive end’s hamstring injury will force him to "miss a little bit of time" and could even reach into the start of the regular season.
Jordan has now sat out three straight practices after hurting the hamstring last Thursday. Moore had already indicated the 37-year-old would need more consultation after the initial diagnosis, and Tuesday’s update kept the outlook open-ended.
"We'll see," Moore said. "It could possibly get into the season, but you never know. So these things, you've just got to have some patience with it, let it take its course and we'll collect more and more information as we go."
The injury stands out because Jordan has built a career out of being remarkably available. He has missed only one game due to injury, sitting out against the Los Angeles Rams in 2022 because of an orbital fracture.
He also missed a game in 2021 after testing positive for COVID-19. In 2023, he played through an ankle issue that later required offseason surgery.
Now the Saints are dealing with the possibility of losing him for at least part of camp, after a contract standoff that lasted several months before the two sides finally worked out a new deal. Jordan is coming off a resurgent 10 1/2-sack season in 2025 and re-signed in June on a one-year, $7.5 million contract.
