Broncos Promote Webb Then Tap Rising Name as Quarterbacks Coach

With Davis Webb stepping into a new role, the Broncos turn to a young and familiar face to mentor their quarterbacks and help shape Bo Nixs development.

The Denver Broncos made some key moves within their coaching staff on Monday, and while Davis Webb’s promotion to offensive coordinator grabbed headlines, another familiar name is stepping into a pivotal role.

Logan Kilgore, who served as an offensive quality control coach under Sean Payton, has officially been named the Broncos’ new quarterbacks coach. He fills the spot vacated by Webb, who was elevated after just one season overseeing Denver’s pass game and quarterbacks.

Kilgore’s path to this role has been anything but conventional-but it’s one that makes sense when you look at the full picture. At 35, Kilgore brings a unique blend of playing and coaching experience, and he’s no stranger to Payton’s system.

Back in 2014, Kilgore was a quarterback out of Middle Tennessee State trying to make the New Orleans Saints roster during training camp. He didn’t stick in the NFL, but he went on to carve out a five-year career in the CFL before shifting gears into coaching.

Since hanging up the cleats, Kilgore has steadily climbed the coaching ladder. After two stints at the college level, he took on the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach role at Isidore Newman in 2022-where he coached none other than Arch Manning.

That connection, along with his familiarity with Payton’s offensive philosophy, helped land him a spot in Denver in 2023 as a quality control coach. He’s held that position for the past three seasons, gaining experience with tight ends and returners along the way.

Most recently, Kilgore coached tight ends at the 2024 Senior Bowl, further expanding his résumé. But now, he returns to the position he knows best-quarterback. His new role will put him in direct collaboration with Bo Nix, who’s preparing for his third NFL season and looking to take the next step in his development.

The pairing of Kilgore and Nix is intriguing. Kilgore’s own playing background, combined with his time spent in multiple offensive systems, gives him a relatable edge when working with young quarterbacks. For Nix, who showed flashes of promise last season, having a coach who understands the nuances of the position from a player’s perspective could be a difference-maker.

With the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach roles now filled, the Broncos still have a few more boxes to check. They’re in the market for wide receivers and defensive backs coaches, and potentially a dedicated cornerbacks coach as well. But with Kilgore stepping into a bigger role and Webb now steering the offense, Sean Payton is clearly putting his trust in a young, ascending staff-one that’s rooted in familiarity, continuity, and a shared vision for where this offense can go.
