Trey Murphy III is on the injury report, but the Pelicans forward still appears likely to suit up Friday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
New Orleans listed Murphy as probable with bilateral patella tendinopathy for the matchup in New Orleans. The 26-year-old has been a steady force for the Pelicans through seven games this season, averaging 14.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from 3-point range.
The Pelicans also have several other names to monitor. Julian Reese, on a G League two-way deal, is probable.
Jaron Pierre Jr. and Malik Dia, both G League two-way players, are doubtful. Yves Missi is out with a left knee contusion/bone bruise.
Minnesota’s injury list is shorter, but it still includes a key name. Terrence Shannon Jr. is questionable with a left hip contusion, while Anthony Edwards remains out after right knee arthroscopy. Donte DiVincenzo is also sidelined following right Achilles tendon repair/surgery.
The Pelicans come in at 4-4 after a 120-113 win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night. New Orleans has been up and down early, but that victory kept it moving in the right direction.
The Timberwolves are 6-3 after a 117-107 road win over the Houston Rockets. Even without Edwards, Minnesota is trying to keep its momentum going.
Friday’s game pits the 10th-place Pelicans against the seventh-place Timberwolves, with tip-off set for 8 PM ET in New Orleans.

Pelicans Win Streak Has Fans Debating A Risky Big-Man Move
The Pelicans have steadied themselves quickly under new head coach Jamahl Mosley, stringing together four straight wins to get back to .500 at 4-4 in the 2026-27 season. After an uneven start, the recent run has changed the mood around the roster and given New Orleans a little breathing room, even as the front office continues to evaluate whether the current group is enough to keep pace in a crowded Western Conference.
Domantas Sabonis has come up as a possible target if the Pelicans decide to chase a bigger swing, and the conversation around that kind of move says plenty about where the team thinks it stands. Any upgrade of that magnitude would come with real roster consequences, and the discussion has centered on what New Orleans might be willing to part with to make it happen, leaving the bigger question of whether the club actually pulls the trigger still unresolved. Herb Jones Just Became A Pelicans Deadline Story To Watch
The Pelicans have made it clear they are protecting a core group in trade discussions, but Herb Jones has quietly become the name to watch as the deadline approaches. New Orleans says it wants to keep the versatile wing, yet his status has not been treated the same way as the four players the team has labeled untouchable, which is enough to keep rival front offices calling and the rumor mill moving.
Jones has long been one of the more valuable pieces on the roster because of what he brings on both ends, and that is exactly why his name keeps surfacing in speculation. Several teams have been linked as possible landing spots, including the Warriors, Lakers and Thunder, and even if the Pelicans prefer to hold onto him, the fact that they have been open to hearing offers makes this one of the more interesting situations to track before February. Pelicans Win Added Fuel To A Growing Jordan Poole Question
The Pelicans overtime win over Utah did more than get them back to .500. It also added another layer to an already delicate situation around Jordan Poole, whose place in the rotation has become harder to read as New Orleans tries to steady itself early in the season. Dejounte Murray carried a heavy load in the victory, logging 44 minutes and scoring 20 points, while the team found enough late to pull out a result it badly needed.
Pooles status has become a talking point because his role has been shrinking even as he works his way back from injury. He was unavailable by coachs decision against the Jazz, and the broader backdrop is only making the conversation louder, with reports suggesting he has been open to opportunities elsewhere. For a Pelicans team trying to build momentum, the bigger question now is whether this is just a short-term lineup wrinkle or the start of something more complicated. [Read more 🡒]
