Dejounte Murray Nears Return for Pelicans After Achilles Injury

New Orleans Pelicans fans have reason to be optimistic as guard Dejounte Murray inches closer to making his much-anticipated return to the court. Murray, who has been sidelined since January 31, 2025, due to a torn Achilles, is back in full swing at practice.

Interim coach James Borrego shared promising updates after Tuesday's practice, indicating that Murray is "close" to game-ready. While he's listed as out for the upcoming clash against the Milwaukee Bucks, Borrego expects Murray to rejoin the lineup within the next week.

Borrego emphasized the transformative impact Murray's return could have on the team. "His leadership is set to make a massive difference," Borrego noted.

"Dejounte brings poise and acts as our on-court general. He seamlessly integrates into our system, directing plays and making crucial decisions.

His presence is felt all over the floor, and his ability to close out games is something we’re eager to see again."

The Pelicans will face the Bucks with a few key players missing. In addition to Murray, Yves Pons and Micah Peavy are also out. Trey Murphy III is doubtful as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury sustained against the Miami Heat.

As Murray prepares for his comeback, the Pelicans are hopeful that his return will bolster their performance and provide a steadying influence during critical moments in games. His track record as a clutch player could be exactly what the team needs to elevate their play in the closing minutes.
