Jack and Quinn Hughes are coming back to the U.S. with gold medals from the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics, but they’re not the only ones in their family with Olympic glory. Their mother, Ellen Weinberg-Hughes, is also bringing home a gold medal.
Ellen played a pivotal role as a player development consultant for the USA Women’s National Ice Hockey Team, who clinched gold at the Winter Olympics. Her background is steeped in hockey history, having competed with the US Women’s National Team in the early 1990s and earning a World Championship silver medal in 1992. She also lent her voice as a broadcaster for the inaugural Olympic women’s hockey tournament.
Just two days before her sons’ showdown in the men's gold medal game, Ellen watched Megan Keller net the overtime winner, sealing a 2-1 victory over Team Canada for the women’s team.
Jack Hughes expressed his excitement about his mom’s achievement and the women’s team’s triumph: “We’re just super happy for all the girls there who won. I think all of us were pulling for them pretty hard, so that was a great game.
We know them from the Olympic Village. We’ve been hanging with them a little bit.
I think all of us were really pumped up for them.”
Quinn Hughes echoed his brother’s sentiments, adding, “Happy for her, happy for the whole team, everyone on the coaching staff. You knew that game was going to be tough, but I think they deserved it."
On Sunday, the men’s team faced off against Canada, with Jack scoring the overtime winner, sealing their gold medal victory.
Although their youngest brother, Luke, wasn’t at the game, he watched proudly as his family made history. “It’s such a proud moment,” Luke said.
“Watching both my brothers win a gold medal, my mom win a gold medal. We kind of cleaned up.
Just really happy for all three of them.”
The Hughes family returns to the United States with their gold medals, leaving an indelible mark on the 2026 Olympic Games.
