Romeo Doubs’ first game with the Patriots gave fans plenty to gripe about, but one Packers expert thinks the reaction is getting ahead of itself.

After Doubs’ shaky showing and the frustration that followed his comments about the game, plenty of Patriots fans have already decided they know what kind of player he is. Boston isn’t buying it.

He was often the glue that held the Packers' passing game together. That's what made Wednesday night so uncharacteristic.
Doubs was consistently one of Jordan Love's most trusted targets. Love looked his way a team-high 85 times last season, connecting 55 times for 724 yards and six touchdowns.
And Love trusted him in big moments, too. It's why 60 percent of his touchdowns over the past two seasons were on third and fourth down. It's why Doubs' best performance (11 catches, 124 yards, 1 TD) came in the playoffs.”
That kind of production is exactly why the Patriots signed him early in free agency in the first place. Doubs is still young, still has room to grow, and still gives New England a receiver who can develop alongside Drake Maye for years to come. His best season came in 2025, when he posted 55 receptions for 724 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Boston also brushed off the postgame comments that drew so much attention after the loss. The line that set people off was Doubs saying he “wasn't locked in enough.” Boston’s view is that the remark was clumsy, not revealing.

That may not be a guarantee in the NFL, but it is a reminder that one bad game - especially in a new uniform, with no meaningful preseason work together - doesn’t decide a player’s future. The Patriots’ Week 2 home opener against the Steelers next Sunday will give Doubs another shot to start changing the conversation, and with A.J. Brown presumably out for a few games, there should be more chances for him to get involved.
