Romeo Doubs Joins Patriots But Who's Their Next Star WR Target?

Despite signing Romeo Doubs, the Patriots remain committed to pursuing a star wide receiver to enhance their offense.

The New England Patriots have made a significant move by parting ways with Stefon Diggs after just one season. Now, they're on the hunt for the next big talent to complement quarterback Drake Maye.

The buzz around the Patriots' interest in Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown is heating up.

Brown, who previously played under head coach Mike Vrabel in Tennessee, is a familiar face. According to NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe, the Patriots are still in the mix, but the Eagles are driving a hard bargain:

"The conversations regarding A.J. Brown are not dead yet," Wolfe reported.

"... But my understanding is that the Eagles' asking price is still very high."

With the Eagles playing hard to get, Patriots GM Eliot Wolf is exploring other avenues. Wolfe notes that the Patriots have had their eye on Green Bay Packers free agent Romeo Doubs as a viable alternative:

"They're hoping to get another wide receiver who's a little younger, a little more trending upward in his career," Wolfe explained. "I know they like Romeo Doubs; he's an intriguing option for them but, again, I think their No. 1 priority might be the trade market."

The Patriots ultimately sealed the deal with Doubs, as reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter. The specifics of the contract remain under wraps.

Doubs showed promise in Green Bay, despite sharing the spotlight in a crowded receivers room. During a season plagued by injuries, he emerged as a key player, leading the team in targets (85), receptions (55), receiving yards (724), and touchdowns (6).

While Doubs might not yet be on A.J. Brown's level, he could thrive as a leading receiver in New England, especially at the age of 25. His market value, projected by Spotrac at $12 million a year, aligns well with the Patriots' budget.

Meanwhile, the Eagles are in no hurry to trade Brown, especially since any move would require a post-June 1 designation. GM Howie Roseman is likely to hold out for the best possible deal, leveraging his position to its fullest.
