In their first season sharing the field in Los Angeles, Puka Nacua and Davante Adams are quietly putting together a historic campaign - not just for the Rams, but for the NFL record books.
Let’s start with the numbers. Nacua, the rookie sensation who’s turned heads all season long, is tied for the league lead in receptions (93), alongside Cardinals tight end Trey McBride. On the other side of the Rams’ passing attack, Adams - the proven veteran and red zone nightmare - leads the NFL with 14 touchdown catches.
Now, here’s where it gets rare. If Nacua finishes the season atop the league in receptions and Adams holds on to the touchdown crown, they’ll become just the fourth pair of teammates since the AFL-NFL merger to lead the league in those respective categories in the same season. That’s not just uncommon - that’s elite company.
The last time it happened? 2011, when Wes Welker led the league in catches and Rob Gronkowski snagged the most touchdowns - both with the Patriots.
Welker also pulled it off in 2007 with Randy Moss, again in New England. Go back further, and you’ll find Kellen Winslow Sr. and John Jefferson doing it for the Chargers in 1980.
That’s the full list. So yeah, this doesn’t happen often.
But Adams isn’t just chasing team history - he’s on the verge of carving out a personal legacy that’s just as impressive.
If he hits 15 touchdown receptions, he’ll become only the third player in league history to hit that mark in his first season with a new team. That club includes Randy Moss, who did it twice - once in his record-setting 2007 debut with the Patriots and earlier with the Vikings in 1998 - and Art Powell, who pulled it off back in 1963 with the Raiders.
And there’s more. Adams is also in position to become the first player in NFL history to lead the league in touchdown receptions with three different franchises.
He already topped the league with Green Bay in 2020, then again with Las Vegas in 2022. If he finishes this season on top with the Rams, that’s a trifecta no one else has ever accomplished.
So while the Rams’ offense has had its ups and downs this year, the pairing of Nacua and Adams is proving to be one of the most productive - and potentially historic - duos we’ve seen in recent memory. One’s a rookie rewriting expectations, the other’s a veteran redefining consistency across teams. Together, they’re not just making plays - they’re making history.
