The Patriots’ roster shuffle on Monday started with a hit to the offense: Romeo Doubs is headed to injured reserve, which means New England will be without the veteran wideout for at least four games.
Doubs suffered a shoulder injury while hauling in a 42-yard touchdown in the first quarter of Sunday’s 26-19 AFC East win at Gillette Stadium. He was later moved from questionable to out.
Since signing in March, the 26-year-old has produced 14 catches for 261 yards and three touchdowns, while working 246 offensive snaps across six games and making two starts. He won’t be eligible to return until late November.
New England’s receiver group now moves ahead with A.J. Brown, DeMario Douglas, Efton Chism III and Kyle Williams.
To fill Doubs’ spot on the 53-man roster in Foxborough, the Patriots promoted safety Elliott Davison from the practice squad. Davison had already been elevated for games against the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets, and he was set to revert Monday before the promotion became official. In those two appearances, the 24-year-old logged two tackles and one pass deflection while playing 10 defensive snaps and 37 on special teams.
Davison originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out in 2025 and spent his rookie season on the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad. The UTSA product signed with New England’s practice squad in September, was released, and then returned.
The Patriots also made three more practice-squad additions on Monday, signing wide receiver Ryan Miller, center Jacob Rizy and guard Andrew Rupcich. Cornerback D’Shawn Jamison was released to make room in the 17-man group.
Miller, 26, went undrafted from Furman in 2023 and has already bounced through several NFL stops. He spent three seasons split between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 53-man roster and practice squad, was claimed by the New York Giants in December, then was awarded to the Miami Dolphins in training camp before being let go last week. Across 30 NFL games, Miller has 17 receptions for 254 yards and four touchdowns, including a 77-yard score in September.
Rizy arrived in May as part of New England’s undrafted class and began 2026 on the practice squad. The 6-foot-5, 306-pound rookie free agent played 155 snaps at center over three preseason games before being waived ahead of the roster deadline. At Harvard and Florida State, he was a second-team and first-team All-Ivy League selection and started 27 games while lining up at center, left guard, right guard and right tackle.
Rupcich is back with the Patriots after being waived with an injury settlement in August following a stint on injured reserve. The 27-year-old offensive lineman had first joined New England’s practice squad last September and signed a futures contract in February.
He entered the league with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and played in 12 games there, including two starts. His return comes as three Patriots starters - Ben Brown, Alijah Vera-Tucker and Morgan Moses - were ruled out on Sunday.
Jamison’s departure closes the loop on a short stay with New England. The 27-year-old cornerback worked out and signed with the practice squad last week, then became the corresponding move after the roster needed room.
He previously entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Texas in 2023, with stops in San Francisco, Carolina and Pittsburgh before spending the first month of the 2026 season on Arizona’s practice squad. In 18 career games, Jamison has 10 tackles, one pass deflection and one start, along with 107 defensive snaps and 166 on special teams.

Patriots Turned A Messy Jets Game On A Few Huge Moments
The Patriots survived a messy one against the Jets by leaning on the kinds of plays that usually decide tight division games: defensive stops, successful fourth-down calls and a pair of scoring drives when the margin for error was thin. Drake Maye helped steer the offense, and New England kept finding just enough answers to stay in front in a game that never really settled into a rhythm.
What stood out most was how the Patriots handled the critical moments near the goal line, where the Jets never managed to cash in. New England also got a crucial final drive to close it out, but the win carried some lingering questions because a key playmaker was shaken up after a long touchdown catch, leaving one more layer of uncertainty hanging over an otherwise needed result. Patriots Need A.J. Brown To Answer One Big Offensive Concern
After getting past the Jets in a 26-19 Week 6 win, the Patriots are back to dealing with the bigger question that has hovered over their offense for most of the month: how much better does it look when A.J. Brown is available? Brown missed four games with an ankle injury, and his absence has left New England searching for more consistency and a clearer passing rhythm as it heads into a Thursday night trip to Chicago.
Draye Maye was candid about what Brown means to the offense, which is why his status looms so large for Week 7. Brown said he is absolutely good to play against the Bears, giving the Patriots a potential boost at exactly the right time, but the real test is whether his return can address the concern that has lingered since he went down. Patriots Suddenly Have An O-Line Depth Problem They Can't Ignore
The Patriots had to move quickly after their game against the Jets left them thin along the offensive line, and on Tuesday the team brought back a pair of familiar faces to help patch things up. Andrew Rupcich and Jacob Rizy were signed to the practice squad, a reminder of how fast depth can get tested in the NFL and how often teams have to lean on the players they already know.
Mike Vrabel confirmed the additions during his press conference and said the club has to stay flexible with the roster as injuries pile up. Rupcich and Rizy were around earlier in training camp and the preseason before being released, so this is less a fresh search than a return to names the Patriots already had in the building, with more roster movement still likely as they work through the fallout from Sunday.
