Patriots Stun Fans With Major Signing to Bolster Offensive Line

Patriots bolster their offensive line by signing Alijah Vera-Tucker to a strategic three-year deal despite his injury history.

The New England Patriots have been on the hunt for a solution to their interior offensive line issues, and it looks like they've found their man. Alijah Vera-Tucker has inked a three-year deal worth $42 million, with the potential to reach $48 million. The expectation is that the 26-year-old will slot into the left guard position, bringing much-needed stability.

Drafted in the first round out of USC in 2021, Vera-Tucker began his NFL journey with the New York Jets. He made an immediate impact, earning a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie team. However, maintaining that early success proved challenging.

In his second season, Vera-Tucker was shuffled around the line, moving from left guard to right guard and even stepping in at right tackle. Unfortunately, a triceps injury cut that season short.

The following year, he faced another setback with a torn Achilles. Despite these hurdles, he made a strong comeback in 2024, starting 15 games.

Yet, injury woes struck again in 2025 when he missed the entire season due to another triceps tear during practice.

Despite appearing in only 43 of a possible 85 games since his draft day, the Patriots are betting on Vera-Tucker's potential and resilience. His signing was one of three key moves the team made on the first day of free agency, signaling their commitment to fortifying the offensive line.
