The New England Patriots have made a strategic move to bolster their offensive line, signing Alijah Vera-Tucker to fill the gap at left guard. After trading center Garrett Bradbury to the Chicago Bears, the Patriots are expected to shift Jared Wilson to center, creating a need for a strong presence at left guard.
Vera-Tucker, who previously played for the New York Jets, remains in the AFC East, bringing his impressive skills to New England. When healthy, Vera-Tucker has shown Pro Bowl potential, making this a high-upside acquisition for the Patriots. The deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, spans three years and could be worth up to $48 million.
However, Vera-Tucker's injury history is a point of concern. Since being drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, he has missed 42 games, including the entire 2025 season due to a torn tricep.
Despite this, his versatility is a major asset. At 6-foot-5 and 308 pounds, he has experience starting at left guard, right guard, and right tackle, providing the Patriots with valuable flexibility.
The new-look offensive line is projected to feature Will Campbell at left tackle, Vera-Tucker at left guard, and Jared Wilson at center, with Mike Onwenu and Morgan Moses anchoring the right side at guard and tackle, respectively.
In addition to Vera-Tucker, the Patriots have strengthened their roster by signing edge defender Dre’Mont Jones and fullback Reggie Gilliam, seizing opportunities as the NFL's open tampering period commenced. This flurry of activity underscores the Patriots' commitment to building a formidable squad for the upcoming season.
