Patriots Stun Fans by Signing Former Division Rival Linebacker

Patriots bolster their special teams and linebacker depth by signing former Dolphins LB KJ Britt to a one-year deal.

The New England Patriots are making waves by signing former Miami Dolphins linebacker KJ Britt to a one-year deal. This move, confirmed by Britt's agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey through ESPN's Adam Schefter, adds a seasoned veteran to the Patriots' roster.

Britt, a former fifth-round draft pick, brings a wealth of experience with 16 NFL starts. Known for his power on the field, he's not just a defensive asset but also a standout on special teams.

Last season, Britt was a key contributor for the Dolphins, playing 77 percent of the special teams snaps. While his defensive snaps were limited to 14 percent, his impact on special teams was undeniable.

For the Patriots, Britt's role seems clear: he'll likely be a cornerstone on special teams while providing depth at the linebacker position. In his stint with Miami, Britt appeared in all 17 games, starting once, and recorded 35 tackles along with a quarterback hit.

This signing follows the Patriots' recent acquisition of former Buffalo Bills fullback Reggie Gilliam on a three-year deal. With these moves, New England is strategically bolstering its lineup with talent from within the division.
