The New England Patriots are making waves with their latest coaching staff addition. Southern Mississippi's running backs coach, BJ Edmonds, is set to join the Patriots, as reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Edmonds brings a diverse background to the table. Before his stint at Southern Mississippi, he honed his skills as a defensive analyst at Duke University, zeroing in on the cornerback position.
His journey also includes three seasons at Utah State University, where he served as a defensive recruiting analyst and a defensive graduate assistant. His playing days were spent as a defensive back at Arkansas State University from 2016 to 2019, adding a layer of on-field experience to his coaching repertoire.
This move is part of a series of staff changes for the Patriots this week. The most notable change saw Zak Kuhr stepping into the role of defensive coordinator on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, former defensive coordinator Terrell Williams has transitioned to a prominent position on Mike Vrabel's staff. Additionally, defensive assistant Vinny DePalma has been elevated to the role of inside linebackers coach, filling Kuhr's previous position.
Edmonds' blend of playing and coaching experience makes him a valuable asset for the Patriots. While his specific role in New England hasn't been announced yet, his versatility and background suggest he'll be a significant addition to the team.
