Patriots Sign Green Bay Star, Shake Up 2026 Roster

As the Patriots revamp their lineup with strategic signings, the 2026 season promises potential shifts in their post-Super Bowl trajectory.

The New England Patriots are making some strategic moves to strengthen their roster this offseason. With the sting of their recent Super Bowl loss still fresh, the Pats are wasting no time in reshaping their lineup for the upcoming season.

One of the headline acquisitions is wide receiver Romeo Doubs from the Green Bay Packers. Doubs inked a lucrative four-year deal, reportedly between $68 and $80 million, stepping in to fill the shoes of Stefan Diggs, who was released last week. This move signals the Patriots' commitment to enhancing their aerial attack.

In addition to Doubs, the Patriots have bolstered their defense by bringing in pass-rusher Dre'Mont Jones on a three-year, $39.5 million contract. Jones is expected to add some firepower to the defensive line, providing the kind of pressure that can disrupt opposing quarterbacks.

The offensive line also sees an upgrade with the signing of Alijah Vera-Tucker. His three-year, $42 million deal reflects the team's focus on protecting their quarterback and improving their ground game.

Adding versatility to their backfield, the Patriots signed fullback Reggie Gilliam from the Buffalo Bills. Gilliam's three-year, $12 million contract highlights his role in both blocking and short-yardage situations.

However, to make room for these new additions, the Patriots have parted ways with several players. Tight end Austin Hooper is heading to the Atlanta Falcons, while offensive tackle Vederian Lowe will join the San Francisco 49ers. Defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, and both linebacker Jahlani Tavai and defensive end Anfernee Jennings have been released.

Rumors have swirled about the Patriots' interest in acquiring wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles, though discussions have seemingly cooled.

Additionally, they showed interest in Alec Pierce, but he chose to re-sign with the Indianapolis Colts. There's also some buzz around a potential pursuit of Jacksonville Jaguars wideout Brian Thomas Jr.

As the free agency period continues, the Patriots are clearly not done yet. With the NFL Draft on the horizon, they’re poised to make further moves to position themselves as serious contenders next season.
