New England Patriots rookie tight end Eli Raridon and his wife, Anna, are grieving the loss of their newborn son, Peter James.
The couple shared the heartbreaking news on Tuesday afternoon, saying their baby was diagnosed with anencephaly during a routine 20-week ultrasound anatomy scan. The severe and incurable neural tube defect prevents parts of the brain and skull from developing correctly, and doctors told them he would not survive outside the womb.
Anna still carried Peter to term. He was born on September 11 and passed away shortly after birth.
“Our angel, Peter James Raridon, was born on September 11th,” a post on Anna’s Instagram account reads. “When Eli and I went in for our 20th-week anatomy scan, excited to see our sweet baby boy, our hearts were forever changed.”
“Our little one was diagnosed with anencephaly, a fatal condition in which he would not survive outside the womb. While we are absolutely devastated that we were unable to bring our baby boy home, I am grateful to have loved him deeply, kept him safe, and had been his home for the past nine months before he was called back to Heaven.”
Peter was the couple’s first child. Eli and Anna were married in May of 2025.
Raridon, a third-round pick by the Patriots in the 2026 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame, has appeared in two games this season. He caught his first NFL pass in the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks, and it went for a two-yard touchdown. He added a 30-yard reception in a week two win over Pittsburgh before a nagging thigh injury sidelined him for the week three matchup.
Even as he deals with profound personal loss, Raridon continues to receive strong community support.

Drake Maye And Mike Vrabel Rumors Add New Concern For Patriots
A shaky start to the 2026 season has already put Drake Maye under an uncomfortable spotlight, with the Patriots quarterback battling multiple turnovers and uneven performance. For a team still trying to settle its long-term direction, that alone would be enough to fuel plenty of conversation around New England, especially with the offense searching for steadier footing early.
Now the discussion has widened beyond the field. A broadcast on The Greg Hill Show added another layer of concern by relaying rumors of tension between Maye and head coach Mike Vrabel, including the suggestion that Vrabel never fully backed Maye as the franchise quarterback. The reporting is coming from unnamed team sources and commentary rather than official confirmation, but even as rumor it gives the Patriots another unresolved issue to manage while the season is still taking shape. Cam Newton Just Turned Drake Maye Into A Patriots Debate
Drake Mayes early-season start has become a talking point far beyond Foxborough, and Cam Newton added another layer to the discussion during a recent podcast appearance. The former Patriots quarterback pointed to Mayes interceptions and the lack of touchdowns through three games, framing the performance against the kind of expectations that follow a team with a Super Bowl pedigree. Newton also acknowledged the context around the rookie passer, including injuries to Mayes receivers, but made clear his opinion was rooted in what he has seen on film and in the numbers.
For the Patriots, the debate is less about one harsh critique than about how quickly the conversation around Maye can shift from patience to scrutiny. Newton has raised the bar before when he talks about New England, and his latest comments fit that pattern, especially with a young quarterback still trying to find his footing in a less-than-ideal setup. The broader question hanging over the situation is whether the early issues are just part of the learning curve or the start of a more uncomfortable conversation about where this offense is headed. Patriots Drake Maye Struggles Now Point To A Bigger Vrabel Problem
Drake Mayes difficult opening to the 2026 season has already become a talking point around New England, with the Patriots quarterback piling up turnovers and struggling to get into a rhythm. For a team that was counting on him to steady the offense, the early returns have only intensified the pressure around a unit that has looked far less settled than expected.
The latest layer comes from chatter on The Greg Hill Show, where the discussion turned to a possible disconnect between Maye and head coach Mike Vrabel. The reports rely on unnamed team sources and commentary rather than anything officially confirmed, but the suggestion that Vrabel may never have fully backed Maye as the franchise quarterback adds another wrinkle to a situation that is already looking bigger than one rough start.
