The injury happened on a key third-down snap, when Brown went down hard after an incomplete pass. Trainers came sprinting onto the field to check on him, and he stayed down for a few tense moments while dealing with visible discomfort around his lower leg.
He eventually got back to his feet, but the walk to the sideline made the problem look serious, with Brown clearly limping. The Patriots later listed him as questionable to return, and he was also reported to have gone to the x-ray room.
Brown’s exit came in a game that had already lost Sam Darnold to a hip injury. Darnold took an awkward tackle from behind on the second play of the game and was ruled out just before halftime.
Before leaving, Brown had three catches on four targets for 26 receiving yards.
The injury adds another tough blow for a New England offense already dealing with major losses.
