Patriots May Have Found Their Guy In Doubs

Romeo Doubs' confidence and potential to become the top receiver in New England could be the much-needed boost for the Patriots' offense.

After the Patriots' offense struggled in the Super Bowl against the Seahawks, there was a clear need to bolster the roster around quarterback Drake Maye this offseason. Head coach Mike Vrabel and general manager Eliot Wolf have made significant strides in addressing this, particularly with key free-agent signings like offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker and wide receiver Romeo Doubs. However, there's still more to be done.

The departure of Stefon Diggs has left a noticeable gap in the receiving corps, but Doubs is poised to step up. Many fans and analysts see him as a potential successor to Diggs, capable of replicating his production from last season.

There are some questions about Doubs' ability to thrive as a WR1, given he never held that title with the Packers. Yet, his confidence is infectious and should reassure Patriots fans, especially since no other major wide receiver has been signed yet.

Doubs expressed his readiness for the challenge during a pre-free agency chat on Richard Sherman's podcast. Even before joining the Patriots, he was eager to take on a leading role and become the top target for Maye.

In 2025, Diggs had 102 targets compared to Doubs' 85. The difference isn't vast, and Doubs is confident he can handle the increased workload in 2026.

While there's speculation about a potential trade for a star like AJ Brown, Doubs might just be the right fit for the Patriots. His time in Green Bay showcased his talent, though he was overshadowed by a deeper roster.

Now, he has a prime opportunity to shine in New England. If he succeeds, Vrabel and Wolf's decision to bring him on board will look even more astute, despite initial skepticism.
