Patriots Injury Report Could Change Everything Against Pittsburgh

Injury concerns loom over this anticipated rematch, as both the Patriots and Steelers grapple with key player uncertainties ahead of their Week 2 clash.

On Sunday, the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers meet in Week 2 with both sides already carrying notable injury concerns into the matchup.

The Patriots, who opened the season with a loss to the Seattle Seahawks, will try to get healthier in time to face a Steelers team that beat them 21-14 last season in Week 3. That result came in large part because New England turned the ball over five times. Even with that setback, the Patriots have handled Pittsburgh well lately, winning eight of the last 10 regular-season meetings.

New England’s injury list includes a few key names. Offensive tackle Dametrious Crownover did not practice Wednesday or Thursday because of a knee injury, and cornerback Carlton Davis III also sat out both days while dealing with a neck issue. Center Ben Brown, who missed Week 1 after hurting his knee in preseason, was limited on both Wednesday and Thursday.

Defensive end Dre’Mont Jones was limited Wednesday and Thursday as he works through a foot injury. Jones made his Patriots debut in Week 1 and logged a sack and two tackles, but his status for Sunday remains uncertain.

Linebacker Robert Spillane moved in a better direction during the week. He was limited Wednesday before turning into a full participant Thursday, a sign he appears on track to play against his former team. Spillane finished Week 1 with eight tackles.

Running back TreVeyon Henderson looks closer to making his season debut. He missed the opener with an ankle injury suffered in August, but he was a full participant Wednesday and Thursday. Barring a setback, the second-year back is expected to be available against Pittsburgh, giving New England a needed boost on offense.

Pittsburgh has its own questions to answer, starting with wide receiver Michael Pittman. He was limited Wednesday with a foot injury before sitting out Thursday entirely, which puts his Week 2 availability in doubt. Pittman had a strong start in his Steelers debut last week, catching all three of his targets for 58 yards.

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. remains a major question mark as well. He did not play in Week 1 because of a back injury and a contract dispute.

After taking part in Wednesday’s practice, he left early with a member of the medical staff and then did not practice Thursday. At this point, it does not look promising for him to suit up in Week 2.

Left tackle Troy Fautanu is also managing an ankle injury after leaving briefly in Pittsburgh’s Week 1 win over the Atlanta Falcons before returning to finish the game. He missed Wednesday’s practice and was limited Thursday.

Tight end Darnell Washington missed Wednesday and Thursday for a different reason - the birth of his son - before returning Friday. He is expected to play Sunday. Washington caught both of his targets in Week 1 for 18 yards.

Robert Kraft Is Now At The Center Of A Growing NFL Controversy

Robert Kraft has landed in the middle of a messy music-world fight after reportedly pushing Macklemore off Ed Sheerans tour in response to comments the rapper made during a Sept. 4 show. Kraft, who cited those remarks and a history of antisemitic rhetoric as reasons for the removal, also made a $2 million pledge for humanitarian aid after a phone call with Sheeran, turning what started as a concert controversy into something much bigger.

The story has quickly widened beyond two performers and one tour stop. Other stadium owners, including David Tepper, Arthur Blank and Jeffrey Lurie, were reported to back Krafts stance, while several of Sheerans opening acts have since withdrawn from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore, leaving the situation unresolved and the fallout still spreading. Patriots Coaches Are Already Talking Up One Rookies Week 1 Impact

Namdi Obiazor didnt need a flash play to make an impression in his first regular-season outing. The rookie linebacker was mostly a special teams presence in the Patriots opener, logging 20 snaps there and making two tackles on kickoffs, a useful debut for a player still working behind other linebackers on the depth chart.

What stood out was how quickly New Englands coaches moved to spotlight him. Special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer and inside linebackers coach Vinny DePalma both praised Obiazors effort and upside, suggesting the Patriots already view him as more than a fill-in on coverage units. If that early trust holds, his role on special teams could become one of the more interesting rookie developments to follow this season. [Read more 🡒]

Former Patriots 1,000-Yard Receiver Suddenly On Ravens Radar

Baltimores wide receiver depth is already under pressure in September, and the Ravens have started looking for help after rookie JaKobi Lane went down with a wrist injury in Week 1. The team responded by signing Gage Larvadain to the practice squad and promoting Chris Moore to the active roster, while also keeping an eye on star target Zay Flowers, who is dealing with a hamstring issue and could miss the next game.

In that search for another reliable veteran, the Ravens also brought in Brandin Cooks for a workout, a notable name for a group trying to steady itself in a hurry. Cooks has long been the kind of experienced receiver teams turn to when they need someone who can step into a role without much ramp-up, and Baltimores interest speaks to how quickly the situation has become a concern. For a Patriots fan base that remembers his 1,000-yard season in New England, it is a reminder that a familiar face could be back on the radar for another contender. [Read more 🡒]
