As the NFL calendar turns to April, the New England Patriots find themselves in a holding pattern with five members of their free agency class still unaccounted for. Yet, there’s a flicker of activity for one player on that list-offensive tackle Thayer Munford Jr.
Munford Jr. recently visited the Tennessee Titans, signaling that his talents are catching eyes beyond Foxborough. While he hasn't inked a deal with the Titans yet, the visit itself suggests a growing interest in his capabilities.
The Patriots aren't ruling out a reunion with Munford Jr., especially as they look to bolster their offensive tackle depth. They've already added James Hudson on a one-year contract, but Munford Jr.'s return could be a strategic move. However, the team is exercising caution due to Munford Jr.'s ongoing recovery from knee surgery post-Super Bowl.
The Titans’ interest might just be the catalyst for movement in this situation.
Re-signing Munford Jr. could be a savvy decision for the Patriots, who are still refining their depth chart behind starting tackles Will Campbell and Morgan Moses. Alongside Hudson, the Patriots have Marcus Bryant, Sebastian Gutierrez, and Lorenz Metz in the mix. Munford Jr.’s experience, particularly from his 2025 role, would certainly elevate the group’s baseline performance.
Having previously suited up for the Raiders, Patriots, and Browns, Munford Jr. made his way back to New England, appearing in nine games and starting three. His 143 offensive snaps primarily saw him as a sixth lineman and a backup right tackle, showcasing his versatility and reliability in critical roles.
