The Patriots’ hopes of a Stefon Diggs reunion are fading fast, and the latest offseason drama around the receiver has only pushed that idea further out of reach.
When New England unexpectedly released Diggs just one year into his three-year contract, plenty of fans immediately started imagining a return. That reaction made sense. Diggs was the first receiver to post 1,000-plus receiving yards for the Patriots since Julian Edelman in 2019, and his connection with Drake Maye gave the offense a look that felt worth revisiting.
Eliot Wolf had left the door open, at least for a while. But with training camp now just a week away, the chance of Diggs coming back looks slimmer by the day.
The situation has gotten even messier because Diggs is reportedly dealing with several civil lawsuits this summer. That alone gives the Patriots plenty of reason to step back, especially with the amount of noise already surrounding the team.
New England has already had more than enough distraction this offseason, including the scandal involving Mike Vrabel and NFL insider Dianna Russini. The last thing the Patriots need is another headline-heavy situation tied to a player carrying legal baggage.
There was a time when a return still seemed possible, especially because there hasn’t been much reported about teams lining up to sign Diggs. There have been whispers, including talk of the Commanders after the Brandon Aiyuk situation blew up in their face, but Diggs still appears to be searching for a new home.
The Patriots, meanwhile, are in a much better spot at receiver than they were before. They traded for Brown last month, signed Doubs in free agency, and are expecting more from the rest of the group as well.
So while the reunion talk has lingered, the reality is looking pretty clear now: Diggs will not be playing for the Patriots again in 2026, and probably not again. Even so, New England can still look back on the one year he spent there and the role he played in helping the team reach the Super Bowl, to everyone’s surprise.

Patriots Made One Quiet Move That Could Change Drake Maye's Future
The Patriots have spent the months after their Super Bowl loss making sure the edges of Drake Mayes pocket look a lot sturdier than they did a year ago. One of the quieter moves came in the draft, when New England moved up three spots in the first round and used a fourth-round pick to land a versatile offensive lineman the front office believes can help right away, whether that means backing up the tackles or sliding into work at guard.
What makes the addition interesting is not just the depth it gives the line, but the ripple effect it could have on the rest of the group. Will Campbell and Morgan Moses already sit in key spots, and the new arrival gives the Patriots another option behind them while also putting more pressure on the competition for snaps. For a team trying to build a cleaner path for Maye, that kind of flexibility can matter just as much as the headline move itself. [Read more 🡒]
Patriots Just Sent A Bigger Training Camp Message Than It Seems
With training camp about to get rolling, the Patriots quietly trimmed their defensive line group and opened up a roster spot in the process. The move leaves the team with eight defensive tackles on hand, a small but telling adjustment for a roster that is still taking shape under Mike Vrabel.
The release does not create any salary-cap ripple, since the player was brought in after rookie minicamp on a deal without guaranteed money. More importantly, the vacancy gives New England a little flexibility as camp approaches, and Vrabel has already hinted that a tight end could be the next position added if the right option is there. Jets May Be Walking Into Another Patriots-Friendly Quarterback Mistake
The Jets are back in familiar territory, searching for a quarterback answer that looks practical in the moment but still leaves plenty of doubt about the long term. Their latest move brought in Geno Smith as a temporary fix, and the broader conversation around the position has only grown louder as they try to avoid another cycle of uncertainty while the Patriots continue to set the standard in the AFC East.
New Yorks history at quarterback is part of what makes the next decision feel so delicate. After the misfires with Justin Fields and Aaron Rodgers, the Jets are already carrying enough baggage at the position, and any new plan will be judged against that backdrop. If they keep chasing upside without finding stability, it is not hard to see why this could end up looking like another move that plays right into New Englands hands. [Read more 🡒]
