The Patriots made a splash in free agency by signing former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs. However, they were also in talks with the Philadelphia Eagles about acquiring wide receiver A.J. Brown, seeking to provide Maye with a top-tier target this offseason.
While the possibility of trading for Brown remains, another intriguing player is now on the radar. The Baltimore Ravens had agreed to send two first-round picks to the Las Vegas Raiders for defensive end Maxx Crosby.
However, the deal fell through due to medical concerns, leaving Crosby's future uncertain. The Raiders might hold onto Crosby or consider trading him, with his market value potentially dipping from what the Ravens initially offered.
According to Mike Giardi of the Boston Sports Journal, Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf has not ruled out a trade for Brown but seems more open to discussing Crosby. "I'm not going to talk about a specific player that's under contract with another team, but we're happy," Wolf mentioned, referring to their recent signings.
Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports that the Patriots are evaluating their cap space to determine if acquiring Crosby is feasible. Wolf noted, "I'd have to talk to (director of research) Richard Miller about our numbers right now. So, again, we'll look into any player that we think can help us."
Adding Crosby would be a significant boost to the Patriots' defense. However, addressing offensive line issues and bolstering the receiving corps remain priorities, as these areas were key challenges during their playoff run. The Patriots are clearly focused on assembling a team that can tackle the tougher competition ahead.
