Patriots Could Catch Raiders Backfield At A Very Different Time

The Las Vegas Raiders face uncertainty as a key running back deals with potential sidelining injuries just ahead of a pivotal matchup.

The Raiders may have to head into Sunday without Ashton Jeanty, and that would be a problem they didn’t need.

Jeanty was absent when Las Vegas opened individual drills on Friday, according to reporter Sam Warren, after being limited the day before with ankle and foot injuries. The foot issue was added to his injury report on Thursday, and the latest update has put his status in real doubt for the Week 4 matchup with the New England Patriots. Las Vegas has officially tagged him as questionable, though he is still traveling with the team and could be pushed all the way to game time before a final call is made.

That uncertainty lands at a rough moment for the Raiders’ offense, which is still searching for traction on the ground. Jeanty opened the season with a strong showing against the Dolphins, piling up 102 rushing yards and catching two touchdowns in Week 1 despite an ankle sprain in practice just before the season.

Since then, the production has cooled. He is averaging 3.4 yards per carry this year, down from the 3.7 yards per carry he posted last season.

Jeanty has been candid about what needs to change.

“I think we’ve just got to be better. Simple as that,” Jeanty said.

“Make the plays that are out there. … It starts with us.

Starts with me. Got to break tackles and make bigger plays when they’re available.”

He also pointed to pass protection as an area he wants to sharpen, even as his role as a receiver has already become a useful part of the Raiders’ offense. Jeanty has 19 catches this season and said he welcomes the added work in the passing game.

“I feel like that was an area of my game that I didn’t get to utilize as much, so coming in with this new scheme and being more involved in the pass game is great,” Jeanty added.

Head coach Klint Kubiak is looking for the ground game to look more like it did in the opener. Las Vegas is 3-1, but Kubiak made it clear the offense needs to be more efficient running the ball if it wants to keep that start on track.

“Going back to that first game [against Miami], just as a whole unit, we played better,” Kubiak said. “We were more efficient running the football, and that’s something we got to get back to. So, it’s something that we’re diligent about.”

For now, Jeanty’s availability remains the biggest question hanging over the Raiders as they prepare for New England.

Patriots Face One Big Week 5 Concern Beyond Drake Maye

The Patriots head into Week 5 with plenty of attention on Drake Maye and the offense, but their preparations for the Raiders have also been shaped by what has happened on the other side of the ball. New England has spent the week sorting through matchups, leaning on its defensive strengths while trying to account for a Las Vegas team that brings its own questions on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis have both been out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday, leaving New England with a cornerback situation worth monitoring as the week moves on. Rhamondre Stevenson has also been limited because of the ankle injury that sent him out late in Sundays game, so the Patriots are carrying a few important health concerns into a game that already carries plenty of intrigue beyond the rookie quarterback. A.J. Brown Looks More Right Than Ever About Leaving Eagles

A.J. Browns move out of Philadelphia keeps looking less like a surprise and more like a turning point for both sides. The receiver arrived in New England after rumors of a fraying relationship with Jalen Hurts and a growing sense that the Eagles locker room was not as steady as it once seemed, and the fallout has only sharpened since then as Philadelphias offense has struggled to find its footing.

The bigger picture around the Eagles has only gotten murkier with the kind of roster turnover that can shake a contenders identity. Losing Lane Johnson to retirement and moving Cam Jurgens for future draft picks have added to the unease, and the visible tension around the team has made Browns departure feel even more significant in hindsight for a Patriots team watching the other sideline stumble. Josh Allen Just Shut Down One Patriots-Bills Storyline

Josh Allen spent part of the conversation after Buffalos win over the Patriots shutting down any notion that a knee issue changed the way he ran the ball. The concern had followed a low hit to his left knee in Buffalos Week 3 win over the Chargers, and after New England saw him work through another division game, the question naturally lingered around whether the injury was limiting his mobility.

Allen did not leave much room for that theory, saying there was no truth to the idea and that he felt great. Against the Patriots, he completed 23 of 33 passes for 253 yards with a touchdown and an interception, while also scoring once on the ground, and the Bills now move on with their quarterback insisting the knee is not a storyline at all.
