Packers Cut Stefon Diggs Brother After Just Two Games

The Packers surprising decision to part ways with a once-elite defender after just two games signals a strategic shift with major financial implications.

Stefon Diggs is gearing up for a shot at the Super Bowl this Sunday with the New England Patriots. But while one Diggs brother is chasing a championship, the other is looking for a new home.

Trevon Diggs, most recently with the Green Bay Packers, is back on the market after the team announced Tuesday that they’ve released the former Pro Bowl cornerback. It’s the second time this season Diggs has been cut-he was released by the Dallas Cowboys at the end of December before Green Bay picked him up off waivers.

The Packers claimed Diggs on December 31, taking on the hefty five-year, $97 million contract he signed back in the summer of 2023. But his time in Green Bay was short-lived.

He suited up for the regular season finale and recorded two combined tackles. In the team’s playoff matchup against the Chicago Bears on January 10, Diggs saw the field for just a single defensive snap.

Financially, the move gives the Packers some breathing room. Cutting Diggs clears over $15 million in cap space, including the $14.5 million he was scheduled to earn in 2026. With no guaranteed money remaining on the deal, it was a clean break for Green Bay-a business decision that’s become all too familiar around the league.

It’s a tough turn for a player who, not long ago, was among the most electrifying defensive backs in the NFL. Diggs burst onto the scene early in his career and earned back-to-back Pro Bowl nods in 2021 and 2022. His 2021 season was especially memorable-he led the league with a jaw-dropping 11 interceptions, showcasing the kind of ball-hawking instincts that made quarterbacks think twice before throwing in his direction.

Now, with the offseason approaching for most teams, Diggs will be looking for a fresh start. His résumé still carries weight, and teams in need of a veteran presence in the secondary could come calling. The question is less about talent and more about fit-can he find a system that lets him play to his strengths and get back to the level that once made him one of the most feared corners in the game?

While Stefon Diggs continues his postseason journey, Trevon’s next chapter remains unwritten. But if his early career is any indication, don’t count him out just yet.
