New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has added a familiar name to his roster, bringing in safety Kevin Byard on a one-year, $9 million deal. This move reunites Vrabel with Byard, who was a key player during their successful stint with the Tennessee Titans.
Byard, known for his ball-hawking skills, led the NFL with seven interceptions last season while with the Chicago Bears. His journey has been quite the ride, starting with Vrabel in Tennessee from 2018 to 2023, before a trade sent him to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Reflecting on Byard’s time with the Titans, Vrabel expressed deep appreciation for his contributions. "Kevin helped carry a new message into the locker room and establish the mindset and work ethic we were trying to instill," Vrabel noted, underscoring Byard's leadership and impact on the field.
During his tenure with the Titans, Byard showcased his prowess with 27 interceptions, 63 pass deflections, and a host of other impressive stats, becoming a Pro Bowl selection in the process. His strong performance continued with the Eagles, where he racked up 75 tackles and seven pass deflections in just 10 games.
Byard's move to the Bears in 2024 marked another chapter in his career. He was instrumental in transforming the team from a 5-12 record to an 11-6 finish in 2025, adding eight interceptions and 223 tackles over two seasons.
Now back with Vrabel, Byard is set to bring his veteran savvy and playmaking ability to the Patriots' secondary, a reunion that promises to bolster New England’s defensive lineup.
