Kayshon Boutte isn’t pretending the Patriots’ receiver room suddenly got simple.
With New England loading up at wideout and Boutte heading into the final year of his rookie deal, the fourth-year receiver is stuck in the middle of a situation that could go a few different directions. He’s expected to see fewer snaps now that A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs are in the mix, and he’s already acknowledged that other teams are paying attention.
Asked Sunday whether his current reps feel like a chance to audition for the rest of the league, Boutte didn’t dodge it.
“I mean, yeah. Every team pretty much watches," Boutte said.
"They watch film. I wouldn’t say practice film, but I mean they watch the game film.
You see. Even preseason.
Really, all 32 teams watching. Not just the team you play for… Everybody watching."
That’s the reality for Boutte now: every rep matters, because his role in New England looks a lot different after the Patriots brought in Brown and Doubs. He’s now competing for rotational snaps with Pop Douglas and Mack Hollins, a setup that could cut into the kind of volume he had last season.
Boutte posted 33 catches for 551 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2025, solid production that helped put him on the radar. But the offseason changed the picture quickly. He asked for a trade in April after New England overhauled its receiving corps, and while the Patriots looked into trade possibilities, they never got the offer they wanted.
So Boutte stayed put, reported to camp, and kept things calm.
He also made it clear he wouldn’t rule out a move if the right one comes along before Week 1.
The situation got even more complicated during Thursday’s practice, when Brown was involved in a heated exchange with Christian Gonzalez. Teammates stepped in to separate the two, and Boutte was among them, helping pull Brown away before the confrontation escalated.
“I was just trying to pull A.J. out (of the scuffle)," Boutte said. "On to the next. I heard him I heard him say something about you're a grown man', I just let it go before it got too far."
For now, Boutte is leaving the door open.
“It’s whatever’s best for me," Boutte said. "Like I said, whether it's here or somewhere else, I gotta do what's best for me. I can't really say it today, you kinda gotta see how things play out."
And that’s where things stand: a receiver with production on his résumé, a shrinking role in front of him, and no interest in pretending he can see how this ends. Boutte said he isn’t someone who predicts the future, and with camp still rolling, his Patriots situation remains unresolved.
