Josh Allen Just Shut Down One Patriots-Bills Storyline

Despite recent knee injury rumors, Josh Allen aims to put doubts to rest with strong performances on and off the field.

Josh Allen didn’t leave much room for speculation Thursday.

After Buffalo’s 29-26 loss to the New England Patriots, chatter started building around whether a knee issue had cut into the Bills quarterback’s running game. Allen had just four rushing yards on five carries, though he did punch in a 2-yard touchdown. When asked whether a knee injury had limited how often he ran, Allen’s answer was blunt:

“There is no truth to that. Feeling great.”

The question had roots in Buffalo’s Week 3 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, when Allen absorbed a low hit to the outside of his left knee on an 8-yard scramble. He stayed in the game, finished the drive with a rushing touchdown and never came off the field. He also stayed off the Bills’ Week 4 injury report, and head coach Joe Brady said after the Chargers game that he was not worried about the quarterback’s condition.

Even with the quieter ground output against New England, Allen still did plenty through the air. He finished 23 of 33 for 253 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

For the season, Allen has rushed 33 times for 118 yards and seven touchdowns through four games. His legs remain a major part of Buffalo’s offense, even after the reduced workload against the Patriots.

Neither Allen nor the Bills has confirmed any structural knee problem, and Allen has not missed a regular-season start since 2018.

Buffalo is 3-1 and heads to SoFi Stadium for a Monday Night Football matchup with the Los Angeles Rams to close out Week 5. Allen’s response Thursday should go a long way toward calming the noise around his knee.

Patriots Face One Big Week 5 Concern Beyond Drake Maye

The Patriots head into Week 5 with plenty of attention on Drake Maye and the offense, but their preparations for the Raiders have also been shaped by what has happened on the other side of the ball. New England has spent the week sorting through matchups, leaning on its defensive strengths while trying to account for a Las Vegas team that brings its own questions on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis have both been out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday, leaving New England with a cornerback situation worth monitoring as the week moves on. Rhamondre Stevenson has also been limited because of the ankle injury that sent him out late in Sundays game, so the Patriots are carrying a few important health concerns into a game that already carries plenty of intrigue beyond the rookie quarterback. A.J. Brown Looks More Right Than Ever About Leaving Eagles

A.J. Browns move out of Philadelphia keeps looking less like a surprise and more like a turning point for both sides. The receiver arrived in New England after rumors of a fraying relationship with Jalen Hurts and a growing sense that the Eagles locker room was not as steady as it once seemed, and the fallout has only sharpened since then as Philadelphias offense has struggled to find its footing.

The bigger picture around the Eagles has only gotten murkier with the kind of roster turnover that can shake a contenders identity. Losing Lane Johnson to retirement and moving Cam Jurgens for future draft picks have added to the unease, and the visible tension around the team has made Browns departure feel even more significant in hindsight for a Patriots team watching the other sideline stumble. Patriots Injuries Could Force Josh McDaniels Into A Raiders Test

Mike Vrabel still sounded upbeat about the Patriots after the latest loss, but the injury list around the offense is starting to shape the conversation for Sundays matchup with the Raiders. New England already has been leaning on the ground game, ranking 10th in rushing yards this season, and that approach could become even more important if the available skill talent stays thin heading into the week.

Josh McDaniels may be forced to make the trip to Las Vegas with a plan that fits what the roster can still do best, especially against a Raiders defense that has had trouble holding up against the run. Mack Hollins and Rhamondre Stevenson both were out of practice, and if that holds, the Patriots will have even more reason to treat this like a game where patience and balance matter as much as explosiveness.
