Jarren Duran kept the details to himself after Saturday’s game, even as the dust settled on a scene that ended with a fan getting tossed from Fenway Park during the Red Sox’s third straight win over the Yankees.
Interim manager Chad Tracy said the fan was removed after “chirping for a few innings and chirping toward Jarren again.” Tracy and Duran had teamed up with a Fenway Park security guard to get the unruly fan out during the eighth inning.
But when reporters brought it up afterward, Duran wasn’t interested in reliving any of it. According to Greg Dudek of the Boston Herald, the exchange was short and tense.
Reporter: "Jarren, obviously, there was that exchange with the fan."
Duran: “Nothing happened.”
Reporter: “Tracy was saying…”
Duran: “Nothing happened.”
Reporter: “You guys were…”
Duran: “Nothing happened.”
Reporter (continuing previous question): “Frustrated over something chirping-wise?”
Duran: “Nope. Nothing happened”
Dudek also reported that Duran spoke to the media for “less than 30 seconds.”
The outfielder’s on-field line didn’t help lift the mood much, either. Duran went 0-4 against New York on Saturday after getting hits in each of the first two games of the series.
He’s still Boston’s everyday left fielder, but June has been a rough month at the plate. Duran is 13-88 in the month with 30 strikeouts and only three extra base hits.
That’s a sharp contrast from May, when he batted .261 and finished with at least one hit in 12 of his final 14 games.
