Connor Heagney didn’t set out to become the Patriots’ go-to car detailer. It started with a message, a TikTok live stream, and a simple pitch to Kendrick Bourne.
Heagney was at home when Bourne was promoting his “Bourne Blessed” clothing line and saw his message come through. Heagney offered to buy a shirt and detail Bourne’s car.
“I told him I'll buy a shirt and I can detail your car,” Heagney remembers. “He said 'Alright, bet. We can make it happen.'”
That exchange turned into the first break for the Norton native, who didn’t get into cars until high school. He was a captain on his high school hockey team then, and after a few YouTube videos, the interest grew into something bigger. In 2023, he launched Heagney Auto Detailing, and in just a few years he’s built a name for himself inside the Patriots’ building.
Bourne was the first customer, and he helped spread the word. The receiver handed out Heagney’s business cards around the locker room, and soon the calls started coming in.
Mike Onwenu reached out. Kayshon Boutte and Alex Austin got cards during training camp, when Heagney would come around as a lifelong Patriots fan watching practice.
Some players messaged him directly. Before long, someone in the organization asked him to start making the trip to Gillette Stadium.
“He texted me every other day asking me to come to the stadium,” Heagney said, relaying that he'd be cleaning the cars of Craig Woodson and Reggie Gilliam the following day.
From there, the work moved to the facility. In the spring, while reporters were heading into the New Balance Athletics Center, Heagney and his friend Danny Lennon were outside detailing cars with a trailer that took up several parking spots. It was hard to miss them.
The list of customers has kept growing. Heagney has detailed cars for current and former Patriots players, and he often makes house calls. Jaylinn Hawkins, Rhamondre Stevenson and Bryce Baringer are among the names he rattles off.
Stevenson said he may have gotten to Heagney first.
“I think I got mine done before KB! I thought I did at least,” Stevenson laughed this week.
“My car was super dirty at the time, I was like 'Might as well tap in.' He did a great job.
“That was my first time getting my car detailed, like actually detailed. He did a great job, I've been back to him plenty of times after the first time. ...
We let him pull up right in our parking lot. It's just convenient.”
For some of the specialists, the introduction came through teammates.
“I think from that point on, I've kind of just used him to wash my car,” kicker Andy Borregales said. “He's a cool guy. ... He's very professional.”
“Connor will kind of make room for everyone,” punter Baringer said. “I remember, I texted him a couple times just out of nowhere on Instagram, and he's like "Yeah, I can be there in two hours.' He also does a super good job.”
Heagney said the early nerves have faded with experience. He’s worked for players on the Red Sox and Celtics too, but the first Patriots job still stands out.
“Going into that detail (with Bourne), I was super nervous,” Heagney said, giving props to the now-Arizona Cardinals receiver for helping him kickstart the business. “I was like, 'Oh my God, this is a Patriots player. ... We gotta make these cars look better than brand new.'”
There’s still one Patriots player he wants to add to the list. He didn’t hesitate when asked.
“Drake Maye.”
Heagney says he wants to turn the business into something much bigger over the next 10 or so years, but he’s also clear about what this stretch has meant to him.
“It didn't come easy,” Heagney said. “I grinded to be where I am today.
I thank God for how I got there. But, yeah, it's truly amazing.
I love detailing for these players. It brings a smile to my face. ...
It definitely didn't come overnight.”
