Stefon Diggs is facing fresh trouble in the civil case brought against him, with his accuser now saying new evidence ties the former Patriots wide receiver directly to the alleged assault.
Christopher Griffith sued Diggs last year, alleging Diggs sexually assaulted him in May 2023 at Diggs’ home in Maryland. Griffith also says he was attacked by a group of men about a week later, including Diggs’ brother, and claims that assault was meant to silence him.
According to TMZ, Griffith filed new court papers Monday seeking to expand his lawsuit. He says the additional material surfaced during discovery and strengthens his case against Diggs.
Griffith’s filing reportedly points to text messages from Diggs’ assistant. Those messages allegedly show the assistant arranging flights and a hotel for one of the men who attacked Griffith, and they were sent on the same day the attack took place.
Griffith also claims phone records show Diggs called that same person during the attack. He says that lines up with surveillance footage from his apartment building.
The legal fight has gone both ways. Diggs was the first to sue in the case, filing against Griffith last year and arguing that Griffith’s accusations damaged his reputation. That lawsuit is still active.
Griffith is also trying to add a defamation claim, a move that comes after Diggs posted on social media recently. In that post, Diggs used a slur and accused Griffith of lying to cover up theft.
Diggs has not addressed the latest claims publicly. He has denied Griffith’s allegations since the case began, and none of the accusations from either side have been proven in court.
On the football side, Diggs is a free agent with training camp approaching. He spent last season with the Patriots, reaching the Super Bowl before losing to the Seattle Seahawks.
Before that, he played four seasons with the Buffalo Bills, where he put up 5,372 receiving yards and 37 touchdowns in 66 games. He was later traded to the Houston Texans in 2024.
