Cooper Kupp Blasts Julian Edelman After Bold Attempt Falls Flat

Cooper Kupp mixes humor with insight as he shares a candid take on Julian Edelman's coffee fail-and what it reveals about their contrasting styles.

Cooper Kupp Talks Coffee, Comebacks, and Super Bowl Runs on ‘New Heights’ Podcast

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp made a guest appearance on the “New Heights” podcast this week, and while there was plenty of football talk, one of the most memorable moments came courtesy of a coffee-related curveball.

The Kelce brothers, Jason and Travis, passed along a question from retired Patriots wideout Julian Edelman - and it had nothing to do with route trees or Super Bowl rings. Edelman wanted advice on how to properly use a French Press.

Kupp’s reaction? Equal parts laughter and resignation.

“He’s hopeless,” Kupp said with a grin. “I tried it.

I’ve already tried with him. I can’t.

I walked him through it the first time he showed me he was making coffee. He dang near drank his coffee with just grounds.

He was chewing his coffee basically… drinking coffee with a spoon.”

Kupp, who clearly takes his coffee process seriously, explained that making a good cup isn’t just about tossing beans and water together - it’s about ratios, feel, and precision. And for a guy like Edelman, known for his detail-oriented play on the field, Kupp was stunned by the chaos in his coffee game.

“You have to measure things. You can’t just throw it together, right?

It’s ratios. You gotta have a feel, a little bit of detail,” Kupp said.

“And for Julian Edelman, one of the most detailed receivers, to just like, throw things together - oh, it broke my heart. Slow yourself down, Julian.”

From Rams Star to Seahawks Leader

Kupp’s lighthearted roast of Edelman was just one part of a wide-ranging conversation. The veteran receiver, who spent the first eight years of his career with the Los Angeles Rams, is in the midst of a fresh chapter in Seattle.

After being released by the Rams last March, Kupp signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the Seahawks. Now, in his first season with the team, he’s preparing for Super Bowl LX - a chance to secure his second ring after winning Super Bowl LVI with L.A.

Through eight seasons, Kupp has racked up 7,776 receiving yards and 57 touchdowns. But his impact in Seattle goes beyond the stat sheet. He’s become a veteran presence in a locker room that’s undergone a major transformation - including a change at the quarterback position.

Backing Sam Darnold: “It’s Just Special”

One of the biggest storylines in Seattle this season has been the resurgence of quarterback Sam Darnold. After rocky stints with the Jets and Panthers, Darnold was named the Seahawks’ starting QB for 2025 - a move that raised eyebrows across the league.

But the doubters have gone quiet. Darnold has thrown for over 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns, helping lead Seattle to an NFC Championship and a date with the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

Kupp, who’s caught passes from Darnold all season, didn’t hold back in his praise.

“For Sam Darnold to do what he did, going through what he went through with the Jets, Carolina - all the scarring that happens - man, everything is put on you,” Kupp said. “That’s saying you aren’t this anymore, like you’re not that guy.”

He continued, “It’s not talked about enough how special and how difficult that is for quarterbacks to do. It’s not an easy thing.

And he’s gone against common belief about quarterbacks and how it works. So it’s just special.”

Darnold’s journey from high draft pick to journeyman to Super Bowl starter has been one of the most compelling arcs of the season. And with a seasoned weapon like Kupp in his corner, the Seahawks have found a rhythm that’s taken them all the way to the big stage.

Super Bowl LX: Patriots vs. Seahawks

The Seahawks will take on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX, set for Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET. It’s a matchup loaded with storylines - from Darnold’s redemption to Kupp’s return to the game’s biggest spotlight.

And if the Seahawks do bring home the Lombardi, don’t be surprised if Kupp celebrates with a perfectly brewed cup of French Press coffee - just don’t ask Julian Edelman to make it.
