“Each side is trying to do what’s right for them. Obviously, Christian’s a tremendous player that you know we’ve been on record multiple times saying we want him to be here, and that hasn’t changed.

Wolf’s comments matched the broader tone around the situation: the Patriots want Gonzalez back, they know what he means to the defense, and they’re still working with his camp. What they didn’t offer was any real sense that a deal is around the corner.
And that’s where this gets tricky for New England. Gonzalez is viewed as one of the best cornerbacks in the league, and the Patriots understand exactly how much worse the secondary looks without him. That reality should be enough to keep pressure on both sides to get something done.
