Bills Cut Veteran Defender Just Before Crucial Game Against Browns

With postseason hopes rising, the Bills shake up their pass rush ahead of a pivotal Week 16 clash with Cleveland.

The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for a pivotal Week 16 clash against the Cleveland Browns, and there’s more than just playoff positioning on the line. They’ll be trying to keep Myles Garrett - one of the most feared pass rushers in the league - from making history. Garrett is chasing the single-season sack record, and the Bills don’t want to be the team that helps him get there.

But Buffalo isn’t just playing defense - they’re making moves of their own. In a bold late-season addition, the Bills signed veteran edge rusher Matthew Judon, who brings both pedigree and production to a defense that’s heating up at the right time.

Judon, a four-time Pro Bowler, is best known for his 15.5-sack campaign in 2022 with the Patriots. He was recently released by the Dolphins, making him available just in time for Buffalo’s playoff push.

Drafted in the fifth round back in 2016 out of Grand Valley State, Judon has carved out a reputation as a relentless, high-motor pass rusher who knows how to get home.

To make room for Judon, the Bills released veteran lineman Morgan Fox. Fox only saw the field once this season - Week 14 against the Bengals - but he’s been a reliable presence in the past, suiting up for every game over the previous four seasons with the Chargers and Panthers. Still, with the postseason looming, Buffalo clearly felt it was time to shift gears and lean into a more aggressive pass-rushing rotation.

And what a rotation it could be. With Judon joining Joey Bosa, Greg Rousseau, and A.J.

Epenesa, the Bills now boast one of the deepest edge groups in the league. That’s a quartet that can rotate, stay fresh, and bring pressure from every angle - exactly the kind of setup that can wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks in January.

Beyond the immediate matchup with Cleveland, there’s a lot on the line in the AFC East. A win for Buffalo, paired with a Patriots loss to the Ravens, would put the Bills back in a tie for first place in the division - a spot they haven’t held since dropping a tough one to New England back in Week 5. It’s been a long climb back, but with a defense that’s rounding into form and a savvy late-season pickup in Judon, the Bills are positioning themselves for a strong finish.

This is the time of year when contenders separate from the pack. Buffalo’s front office just made a statement: they’re not backing down - they’re gearing up.
