In a notable offseason shakeup, the New England Patriots are bidding farewell to another member of their coaching staff. Ben McAdoo, who served as a senior defensive assistant last season, is set to part ways with the team after two years. This news was initially reported by NFL insider Joseph Pasteris.
McAdoo, known for his previous roles as head coach of the New York Giants and offensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers, joined the Patriots under head coach Jerod Mayo in 2024. Initially, he contributed as a senior assistant on the offensive side. However, when Mike Vrabel took over as head coach in 2025, McAdoo made a rare transition to defense-a first in his extensive NFL career.
At 48, McAdoo becomes the third departure from Vrabel’s staff this offseason. Earlier, assistant offensive line coach Robert Kugler left to take on the role of tight ends coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and defensive assistant Milton Patterson also exited the team.
Despite these changes, Vrabel remains optimistic. Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, he expressed confidence in the current coaching lineup, stating, “I think we have a great staff. There’ll be some people that we’ll add going through this process.”
As the Patriots navigate these transitions, the focus will undoubtedly be on how these changes impact their strategy and performance in the upcoming season.
