Perfect Transfer Falls Right Into Nebraska's Lap

Could Olivier Rioux, the towering 7-foot-9 athlete, be the missing piece for Nebraska's basketball dreams after a historic season?

The Nebraska Cornhuskers just wrapped up what might be their most successful men's basketball season ever. As they look to build on that momentum, they have an intriguing option: adding Olivier Rioux, the towering 7-foot-9 player who's set to enter the transfer portal.

For those not in the know, Rioux stands out-literally-as the only player of his height in college basketball. His potential move is creating quite a buzz, thanks to college basketball insider Jeff Goodman confirming his transfer plans.

Nebraska's interest in Rioux isn't coming out of nowhere. Back when he was being recruited, Nebraska and Florida were the only high-major programs showing interest, according to his 247Sports recruiting profile. Although the Cornhuskers didn't extend a scholarship offer, their pursuit was notable enough to be recorded.

Rioux's recruitment journey also included schools like Stetson, Florida Atlantic, and Coastal Carolina. He spent two seasons with the Florida Gators, redshirting during their national championship run and appearing in 11 games this past season.

In his limited time on the court, Rioux logged 16 minutes, shooting 3-of-6 from the field and 1-of-2 from the free-throw line, tallying 7 points. He also grabbed 6 rebounds, handed out an assist, committed a turnover, and picked up two fouls.

While Rioux might not yet have the mobility or strength to be a major force for a top-tier program, his height is an undeniable asset. Nebraska might see value in revisiting their interest, especially considering the development he's undergone in a competitive program over the past two years.
