Packers Expected To Hire Former Nebraska Star With NFL Draft Pedigree

A familiar face to Nebraska fans is set to take the next step in a rising NFL coaching career with a key role in Green Bay.

Daniel Bullocks is on the move again-this time trading the Bay Area for the frozen tundra of Green Bay. After nine seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, Bullocks is expected to join Matt LaFleur’s staff as the Packers’ new safeties coach. It’s a significant shift, both in geography and opportunity, for a coach who’s been quietly building a strong NFL résumé.

Before he was coaching up NFL secondaries, Bullocks was patrolling the back end himself. A standout safety at Nebraska, he started 22 games for the Cornhuskers and wore the captain’s “C” during his senior season. Back when Nebraska was still a Big 12 powerhouse, Bullocks earned Second-Team All-Big 12 honors in his final two years-no small feat in a conference loaded with offensive firepower.

That college success led to Bullocks being selected in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He spent three seasons in the league before shifting gears and turning his attention to coaching.

That transition started in 2012 at Northern Iowa, where he worked with defensive backs. From there, it was a steady climb-Eastern Michigan, then the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016 as an assistant DBs coach, and then a pivotal move to San Francisco in 2017.

In the Bay Area, Bullocks found stability and growth. After two seasons as an assistant, he was promoted to safeties coach in 2019-a role he held through the end of the 2025 season.

During that stretch, he helped guide a 49ers secondary that saw its share of ups and downs, but consistently produced smart, physical play on the back end. His work didn’t go unnoticed either-he interviewed for the 49ers’ defensive coordinator job in 2024.

While that role eventually went to Robert Saleh, who returned to the team before heading to Tennessee, Bullocks remained a respected voice on Kyle Shanahan’s staff.

Now, he’ll bring that experience to a Packers team that’s looking to retool its defense. Green Bay’s secondary has talent, but it’s also young and still developing.

That’s where Bullocks comes in. His track record suggests he knows how to connect with players and elevate their game-something the Packers will be counting on as they look to take the next step in the NFC.

For Bullocks, this move is more than just a new job-it’s a fresh chapter. He’s gone from college standout to NFL draft pick, from young assistant to seasoned position coach.

And now, he’s stepping into a new environment with a chance to make a real impact. Packers fans should keep an eye on this hire.

Bullocks brings a rare blend of playing experience, coaching acumen, and leadership-and Green Bay’s safeties are about to benefit from all of it.
