Nebraska’s on-field skid has started to test the patience of Husker fans, but five-star quarterback commit Trae Taylor isn’t budging.
After Nebraska dropped its fourth straight game, Taylor went on social media to make it clear where he stands with Matt Rhule and the program. “Stay on that side,” Taylor said, seemingly addressing Husker fans who have turned against Rhule.
“I’m always going to stand behind (Coach Rhule). I’m just as invested in this program as the next person.
#GBR.”
Taylor posted the message with a photo from his official visit to Nebraska on June 5. The image also carried the words: “Adversity has never made me scared. GBR!!”
The high school senior is currently preparing for a semifinal matchup in Nebraska’s Class A state playoffs, and he remains the centerpiece of the Huskers’ 2027 recruiting class. Taylor committed to Nebraska in May 2025 as a four-star recruit, then rose to become the top-ranked quarterback in the 2027 cycle and picked up MVP honors at the 2026 Elite 11 Finals.
He has become the headliner of NU’s 2027 haul and, for plenty of fans, the player who could help change the direction of the program. Even as confidence in the current staff keeps slipping with each loss, Taylor has stayed firmly in Nebraska’s corner.
Since transferring to Millard South in Nebraska from Carmel Catholic in Illinois, Taylor has piled up 3,982 all-purpose yards and 53 total touchdowns in 11 games. The Patriots are 10-1, with their lone defeat coming against top-ranked Omaha Westside in the final game of the regular season.
Taylor’s support came before Nebraska announced the dismissal of offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen, who had been on staff since 2024. Holgorsen and Taylor appeared to have a strong relationship, but quarterbacks coach and interim offensive coordinator Glenn Thomas has seemingly been the more important piece.
That matters because Nebraska’s immediate future is about more than just winning games in 2026. Keeping Taylor committed is right there with it, and Thomas’ chance to run the offense - along with his retention next season - would help Nebraska keep the five-star quarterback on track with his plan to wear the Scarlet and Cream.
Taylor has kept choosing the Huskers over and over, and Nebraska now has to start backing that belief up on the field.
The Holgorsen move is a start, but with National Signing Day four weeks away, there is still time for things to shift. Rhule and his staff are under pressure to turn this around quickly before the situation gets worse. If Taylor were to decommit, it would almost certainly be a devastating blow to Rhule’s tenure at Nebraska.

Matt Rhule Just Made His Biggest Nebraska Offense Decision Yet
Four straight losses and a sputtering offense left Matt Rhule with little choice but to make a change, and Nebraskas latest move puts the spotlight squarely on how the Cornhuskers finish the season. Dana Holgorsen, who had served as offensive coordinator since 2024, has been fired, a significant shakeup for a unit that never found enough consistency to steady the teams slide.
Glenn Thomas, the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, will handle play-calling the rest of the way, giving Nebraska a fresh voice in the booth at a critical moment. Holgorsen now has to look ahead to his next opportunity, with the program choosing to reset its offensive direction in the middle of a season that has already tested everyone involved. [Read more 🡒]
Nebraska OC Search Just Put Matt Rhules Offensive Vision In Focus
Nebraskas offensive coordinator search has quickly become a revealing window into where Matt Rhule wants the program to go next. After firing Dana Holgorsen, the Cornhuskers are weighing their options with an eye toward a scheme that looks less like the Air Raid and more like a ground-oriented attack, which would mark a noticeable shift in identity for an offense still searching for consistency.
Kliff Kingsbury has surfaced as a possible name because of his reputation and current role on the Los Angeles Rams staff, but the fit appears shaky from the start. Kingsbury has long shown a preference for the NFL, and Nebraskas direction seems to be moving in the opposite direction of the style he is known for, leaving the search centered on whether Rhule wants a true schematic change or simply the best available name. Matt Rhule Just Gave Nebraska Fans A Bigger Reason To Worry
Nebraskas loss to Illinois, a 24-13 setback that added another rough chapter to a disappointing season, left the Cornhuskers with the same familiar problem: enough movement to suggest something better, not nearly enough finishing to make it matter. The offense showed some production, but the yards never turned into points, and the frustration around the program keeps circling back to the same place, where coaching decisions and execution have both come under the microscope.
Matt Rhule was brought in to steady the program, but the questions now are getting louder about whether his approach fits the Big Ten grind Nebraska has to survive. Quarterback Anthony Colandreas performance is part of the conversation, too, and the bigger concern is that the issues dont look isolated. They look connected, which is why the discussion around Rhules future is starting to feel less like outside noise and more like a real part of the season. [Read more 🡒]
