Nebraskas QB Future Suddenly Looks Even Stronger Than Fans Realized

With Trae Taylor's rise to a five-star recruit and Nebraska's proactive approach to future talent, the Huskers' quarterback pipeline looks more promising than ever.

Trae Taylor’s rise keeps picking up steam, and Nebraska fans have another reason to feel good about where things stand with the Elite 11 MVP.

247 Sports has now bumped Taylor to five-star status, a move that matches the buzz he built while becoming the No. 1 quarterback in the 2027 class. He sits at No. 8 overall in the Top247, and 247 Sports also has him as its top quarterback. ESPN lists him at No. 2 at the position, while Rivals has him fifth and 71st overall.

That combination matters because the 247 Sports composite - which blends the major rankings - now places Taylor in five-star territory. ESPN has him in the top 40, though still behind Michigan commitment Kamden Lopati, but the overall rise from both ESPN and 247 Sports was enough to push him over that line in the composite.

The source article also points to how those rankings can differ. Danny Odem was a five-star for 247 Sports, but only a four-star in the composite, where he checked in at No. 25 overall and second among quarterbacks. Dylan Raiola, by comparison, was No. 21 overall in the 247 Sports composite when he signed in the 2024 class.

There’s also another detail that should catch Nebraska fans’ attention: according to Pete Nakos of On3, Taylor is one of the seven highest-paid recruits in the 2027 class.

Nebraska’s quarterback recruiting picture doesn’t stop there, either. The Huskers have already offered 2028 quarterback Jaxson Carper, a three-star composite prospect from California, and Rivals says Nebraska is one of the schools standing out early. The 6-foot-3, 160-pound Carper also has UCLA, Arizona, Kansas and Iowa in the mix.

Carper visited Nebraska unofficially this summer, and he told Rivals he “likes Nebraska a lot.”

He plans to take Gameday visits to each of the programs this fall, and Arizona appears to have some early momentum. Still, Nebraska has been active on the trail at quarterback, with Glenn Thomas helping land Taylor and four-star TJ Lateef, another Elite 11 quarterback from California.

It’s still early with Carper, but Nebraska could make a real push if it decides to make him a priority in the 2028 class. For now, though, the Huskers don’t seem in any hurry to lock in a top quarterback target for that cycle.

Pryce Sandfort Just Revealed Why He Chose Nebraska Again

Pryce Sandforts decision to return for another season gives Nebraska mens basketball a major piece to build around again, and it comes after a breakout year that put him squarely on the radar. The forward started all 35 games, earned first-team All-Big Ten honors and gave the Huskers the kind of steady production that made him one of the leagues most reliable players.

Sandforts choice also says plenty about where he sees his future. After hearing from NBA teams and weighing what comes next, he opted to come back in hopes of improving his draft stock, a move that keeps Nebraskas roster outlook stronger while giving him another year to sharpen his game. The only real question now is how much more he can raise his profile before the next decision point arrives. [Read more 🡒]

Why Holgorsen Still Sees Bonner As A Key Piece For Nebraska

Janiran Bonner has remained part of the conversation around Nebraskas offense even while he works his way back from a lost season. Dana Holgorsen has continued to point to Bonner as a player whose value goes beyond the usual box score, praising the way he handles his work and the leadership presence he brings to the room.

What makes Bonner especially interesting is the range of ways Nebraska can use him once he is back on the field this fall. Holgorsen views him as a versatile piece who can fit into multiple offensive roles, and that kind of flexibility is exactly why his deployment remains a point worth watching as the Cornhuskers keep shaping their attack.
