Nebraska Targets Portal Star After Latest Transfer Shakeup

Amid Nebraska's historic Sweet 16 run, Fred Hoiberg eyes local standout Treyson Anderson, who enters the Transfer Portal amidst growing interest from top programs.

As Nebraska basketball rides the wave of a historic run to the Sweet 16, the recruiting grind never takes a backseat. Enter Treyson Anderson, a name that’s buzzing in the college hoops world as he prepares to enter the Transfer Portal next month.

Anderson recently played a pivotal role in leading North Dakota State to the NCAA Tournament, though their journey was cut short by a first-round exit against Michigan State. Now, he’s among three standout players from the Bison’s record-setting team seeking new opportunities.

The sophomore forward, joined by seasoned teammates Noah Feddersen and Damari Wheeler-Thomas, is drawing significant attention. Anderson, a Lincoln native, is particularly intriguing for Nebraska, not just for his impressive season stats at North Dakota State, but also for his local roots.

Standing at 6-foot-9, Anderson posted averages of 10.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, starting the last 20 games for the Summit League champions. His shooting efficiency-50% from the field and nearly 36% from three-makes him a hot commodity for major conference programs. Nebraska, facing the potential departure of Pryce Sandfort to the NBA, could see Anderson as a key addition.

While Anderson’s Lincoln ties are compelling, they don’t guarantee he’ll don the Huskers' jersey. Reports suggest several prominent programs have already reached out to him, even before his official portal entry was announced.

Nebraska, however, has a lot going for it. Their Sweet 16 achievement-and possibly more by the end of the week-alongside an offense that complements Anderson’s skill set, provides a strong pitch. The allure of returning to his hometown could also play a significant role in his decision-making process.
