Nebraska Still Can't Escape This Doubt Around Trae Taylor

As speculation swirls around elite QB Trae Taylor's future, Nebraska's grip on their prized recruit faces scrutiny amidst college football's unpredictable recruiting landscape.

CBS Sports’ latest list of top 5-star flip candidates includes a name Nebraska fans know well: Trae Taylor.

Cody Nagel wrote that Taylor, the quarterback committed to the Huskers and now ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 QB in the 2027 class, remains on Ohio State’s radar even after months of speculation about whether he might eventually change course. Nagel pointed to Taylor’s summer work at the Elite 11 and The Opening Finals as part of the reason his profile has only grown.

“Trae Taylor is viewed as the future of Nebraska's quarterback room, and his standout performances this summer at the Elite 11 and The Opening Finals only strengthened his case as the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the 2027 class,” Nagel wrote. “ Ohio State hasn't made much ground in its attempt to flip Taylor away from the Huskers, but the Buckeyes continue to stay involved.”

Nagel also acknowledged how hard it would be to pull Taylor away from Nebraska.

“It is going to be very difficult to flip him from his commitment to Nebraska. The nation's top quarterback currently resides in the Cornhusker State and will end his high school career in Omaha, not too far from Lincoln.

If Nebraska wins this season, he is not going anywhere. That said, Ohio State has not given up and will continue pushing for a flip until Taylor stops answering the phone.”

Still, Taylor keeps saying the same thing: he’s staying with Nebraska. He has repeated that message over and over, and he even moved to Nebraska to play his final high school season closer to where he’ll enroll in college.

The skepticism from national analysts hasn’t gone away, though. The broader belief seems to be that Nebraska will eventually lose this kind of battle, especially in a recruiting era where commitments carry less weight than they used to.

There’s also the reality of Nebraska’s recent track record, which makes outsiders hesitant to believe the Huskers can hold onto the nation’s top quarterback prospects. Even so, Nebraska has now landed the best quarterback in the class two of the last three years.

Analysts have brushed off Dylan Raiola’s commitment as a special case tied to his being a Husker legacy and to Matt Rhule’s staff bending over backward to keep him happy, including keeping an offensive line coach who was clearly overmatched but happened to be his uncle. None of that explanation fits Taylor.

So the doubt lingers. National voices still talk as if Taylor is bound to flip before December, even though the quarterback himself keeps insisting he’ll be a Husker. The only question left is what those same analysts will say if he ends up making good on that promise.

Nebraska Just Entered A High Stakes Battle For A Legacy Defender

Nebraska has jumped into the mix for a name that already carries plenty of weight in football circles, extending an offer to a young defensive line prospect with one of the sports most recognizable family backgrounds. The Huskers are now part of a growing list of major programs pursuing him, and the appeal is obvious: a talented lineman with bloodlines that connect him to both the NFL and the broader sports spotlight.

What makes this one worth tracking from Lincoln is that Nebraska is not just making an early courtesy call. The recruit is planning multiple visits to campus over the next year, giving the Huskers a real chance to make an impression as the race develops. Penn State, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and Indiana are among the schools already in the picture, which means Nebraska is entering a crowded battle where early momentum may matter as much as any offer on the table. Nebraska Recruiting Surge Just Added Another Name Fans Will Worry About

Nebraskas 2027 football class keeps growing, and the latest addition is another name that should matter to fans tracking how the wide receiver room is shaping up down the road. Four-star receiver Khalil Taylor joined the class, giving the Cornhuskers a 22nd commitment and making him the third receiver in the group as the staff continues to stack talent early in the cycle.

The timing also fits the broader run Nebraska is having across its programs, with volleyball landing three players on the U.S. team for the NORCECA Womens U21 Pan American Cup and baseball adding Millard West pitcher Colton Williams for 2027. Even so, the football recruiting picture still has some moving parts, and with the class continuing to expand, the next question is how Nebraska plans to balance all that momentum against the battles still unfolding on the trail. Can Rob Aurich Finally Fix Nebraskas Biggest Problem Up Front

Rob Aurich arrives in Lincoln with a clear defensive identity, and that matters for a Nebraska front that has been searching for more consistency and more bodies it can trust. At San Diego State in 2025, he ran a 4-2-5 look with a four-man front built around technique and a steady rotation up front, the kind of approach that can keep linemen fresher and create a better weekly floor if the pieces fit.

For Nebraska, the appeal is obvious because the 2026 defensive line should have enough returning talent and transfer help to at least try that model under Aurich and line coach Corey Brown. The bigger question is whether the Huskers can turn that depth into real disruption, especially from players like Riley Van Poppel, whose next step has been a talking point, while younger options and newcomers compete for snaps in a room that suddenly feels deeper but still unproven.
