Nebraska Softball Shines in California
The Nebraska softball team had a week to remember, going undefeated with a 5-0 record in California. The Huskers showcased their dominance by defeating two ranked teams, run-ruling one, and outscoring their opponents 45-3.
On Sunday, they shut out Seattle 9-0 and followed it up with a 6-0 victory over Cal. Saturday saw an impressive 8-2 win over Texas A&M, where Jordy Frahm was exceptional. She struck out 10, allowed just one run over five innings, and contributed offensively with a home run and four RBIs.
The Huskers also delivered a commanding 9-1 win against a ranked South Carolina team and a 13-0 victory over Hawaii. With an 11-4 overall record and a 6-4 mark against ranked opponents, Nebraska is building a strong case for hosting a regional or super regional as they head into conference play.
Frahm continues to impress this season with a .390 batting average, tied for the team lead in home runs (6) and RBIs (16) alongside UNLV transfer Jesse Farrell. Hannah Camenzind, leading the team with a .412 average, is also tied with Frahm for the most doubles (5).
In the pitching circle, Frahm holds a 3-3 record with a 1.95 ERA over 11 appearances, along with five saves and 57 strikeouts in 34 innings.
Nebraska Women's Basketball: A Crucial Win
The Nebraska women’s basketball team bounced back from a tough loss to Oregon with a thrilling 69-68 victory over Washington, courtesy of Britt Prince's game-winning 3-pointer. This marked their first quad-1 win of the season, improving their overall record to 17-11, though they stand at 6-11 in the Big Ten.
With a crucial game against Rutgers looming, Nebraska likely needs a strong showing in the Big Ten tournament to bolster their NCAA hopes.
Nebraska Men's Basketball: Holding Steady
Nebraska men's basketball secured a decisive 23-point win over Penn State, maintaining their position tied for second in the Big Ten loss column. While it may not significantly impact their NCAA tournament chances, it was a needed morale boost.
The NCAA selection committee's recent bracket preview placed Nebraska as a No. 3 seed. If they can maintain their momentum, they should be able to hold onto that seed, with a drop below No. 4 seeming unlikely.
Nebraska Baseball: A Resilient Finish
Nebraska baseball had a challenging weekend, dropping games to Louisville and Kansas State. However, they rebounded with a strong 10-1 win over 16th-ranked Florida State on Sunday.
Gavin Glachowicz delivered five solid innings, allowing just one run for his first win of the season. Dylan Carey came close to hitting for the cycle, going 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, and five RBIs. Nebraska now stands at 4-3, with a notable win over a ranked team.
