Nebraska Rifle Team Stuns with Top Five Finish at NCAA Championships

Nebraska's rifle squad showcases resilience and talent in a top-five finish at NCAA championships, underscoring the strength of both seasoned and emerging athletes.

Nebraska's women's rifle team wrapped up an impressive season in Columbus, Ohio, competing for the national title and finishing strong in the top five over the two-day series.

Day 1 Highlights

The Huskers kicked off the competition with a solid performance, clinching third place behind Ole Miss and tying with TCU at the end of Day 1. Both Nebraska and TCU posted a score of 2,354 in the smallbore, but TCU edged ahead in the tiebreaker by shooting more inner tens.

Senior standout Emma Rhode led the charge with a stellar score of 591 in prelims, earning her a spot in the individual finals. Katlyn Sullivan and Maddy Moyer also shined, each scoring 589.

Carley Seabrook contributed with a 585, and Alivia Perkins rounded out the team with a 574. Rhode finished seventh in the individual smallbore finals with a score of 406.5.

Coach Richard Clark expressed his pride in the team's resilience: “Today was a battle and filled with excitement from the first to last shot. Seeing Emma make the final and chase an individual title was fantastic.”

With Day 1 in the books, Nebraska aimed for a strong finish in the air rifle competition to wrap up the 2025-26 season.

Day 2 Recap

Day 2 presented its challenges, but freshman Katlyn Sullivan delivered a standout performance. The Huskers tied for fourth with Kentucky, both scoring 4,736, but the Wildcats claimed the tiebreaker thanks to more inner tens.

Sullivan shot an impressive 599 in prelims, advancing to the individual finals where she secured second place with a score of 249.9. Rhode and Moyer each scored 595, while Perkins and Seabrook added scores of 593 and 592, respectively.

West Virginia emerged victorious with a total score of 4,748, followed by TCU and Ole Miss in second and third with scores of 4,741 and 4,738. Kentucky and Nebraska rounded out the top five, with the Wildcats narrowly edging out the Huskers.

Coach Clark reflected on the weekend: “I’m proud of the way the team battled. While the outcome wasn’t what we hoped for, Katlyn’s performance was a highlight. With a young team, the experience gained is crucial, and I’m excited for what’s next.”
