Nebraska QB Marcos Davila to Enter Transfer Portal After One Season in Lincoln
Another shakeup is coming to the Nebraska quarterback room. Marcos Davila, who transferred in from Purdue last offseason, is planning to enter the transfer portal after just one year with the Huskers.
Davila’s time in Lincoln was quiet on the field - he appeared in only two games, against Akron and Houston Christian, without attempting a single pass. For most of the season, he was buried on the depth chart as Nebraska’s fourth-string quarterback.
That changed late in the year, when injuries forced some reshuffling. After Dylan Raiola went down with a season-ending injury, Davila moved up the pecking order and traveled with the team to both UCLA and Penn State.
But now, with another round of quarterback turnover underway, Davila is looking for a fresh start.
His departure adds to a growing list of exits from Nebraska’s QB room. Raiola, a high-profile name in the program, has also announced plans to enter the portal.
Meanwhile, Jalyn Gramstad - who spent much of the year as the Huskers’ third-string quarterback - is out of eligibility after this season. That leaves Nebraska with some serious decisions to make under center heading into 2026.
Davila came to Nebraska with a strong high school pedigree. A product of Midland, Texas, he rewrote the record books at his school, throwing for 9,101 yards and 93 touchdowns over his career.
He posted back-to-back 3,000-yard passing seasons as a junior and senior, racking up 66 touchdowns in those two years alone. That kind of production turned heads, and it’s clear the talent is there - he just hasn’t had the opportunity to show it at the college level yet.
The timing of his announcement comes amid a shifting college football calendar. The NCAA has eliminated the spring transfer portal window and bumped the winter window from December to January.
Officially, the portal doesn’t open until January 2 and runs through January 16. Until then, players can declare their intentions to transfer but can’t formally visit schools or have official contact with programs until they’re in the database.
For Davila, this move is about opportunity. He’s yet to throw a pass in college, but he’s got a big arm, a strong résumé from his high school days, and now - another shot to find the right fit. Whether that’s at the Power Five level or elsewhere, he’ll be a name to watch once the portal officially opens in January.
And for Nebraska, the quarterback room just got a little thinner - and the offseason just got a lot more interesting.
