Nebraska QB Pipeline Sends Two Top Talents Back Into Transfer Portal

As the transfer portal heats up, two standout Nebraska high school quarterbacks re-enter the market in search of fresh starts and new opportunities.

As the college football transfer portal gears up for its official January 2 opening, two familiar names from Nebraska high school football are back in the spotlight - and back on the market. Quarterbacks Zane Flores and Anthony Rezac, both standout prep stars in the Cornhusker State, are on the move, highlighting not only the growing pipeline of talent coming out of Nebraska but also the ever-evolving landscape of college football rosters.

Let’s start with Flores. The former Gretna star was a highly regarded prospect in the 2023 class, earning a three-star rating from On3.

While Nebraska didn’t extend an offer, Flores had no shortage of suitors - Kansas State, Missouri, Washington, and Oklahoma State all came calling, among others. He ultimately landed in Stillwater with the Cowboys, where he earned the starting job for most of the 2025 season.

Now, with a coaching change underway at Oklahoma State, Flores is looking for a new home. And he brings some real experience to the table.

As a redshirt freshman, he threw for 1,490 yards, three touchdowns, and seven interceptions, while adding 117 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. Those numbers don’t jump off the page, but they do tell the story of a young quarterback who got meaningful reps and showed flashes of potential in a tough Big 12 environment.

With a fresh start and the right system, Flores could be a solid addition for a Group of Five program looking for a young QB with upside.

Anthony Rezac, meanwhile, took a different path. A 2024 product out of Omaha Westside - a perennial powerhouse in Nebraska high school football - Rezac was a dual-threat quarterback who didn’t draw Power Four offers but did catch the attention of the service academies. He ultimately chose to walk on at Notre Dame, joining his brother Teddy, a linebacker for the Irish.

Rezac didn’t see the field in 2025, and now he’s ready to explore new opportunities for 2026. While his next stop is still up in the air, he’s another example of how deep the talent pool has become in Nebraska - and how competitive the college football landscape is, even for players with strong high school résumés.

Neither Flores nor Rezac is expected to return to Nebraska, at least not on scholarship. But both are intriguing names to watch as the portal carousel spins into high gear.

Flores has already shown he can handle the pressure of starting at the Power Four level. Rezac, while less proven at the college level, brings athleticism and a high football IQ from a winning program.

In today’s game, where quarterback depth is more important than ever, both players could be valuable additions for programs looking to reload. The portal is about finding the right fit - and for Flores and Rezac, the next chapter is just beginning.
