Nebraska keeps pushing for one of the biggest prizes in the 2027 class, and Ahmad Hudson has made it clear the Huskers are not going away.
Hudson, the No. 1 tight end in the 2027 recruiting class and a LSU commit, has left the door open to a flip. His recent comments pointed straight at Nebraska’s persistence and LSU’s lack of it: "The program you wouldn’t expect to be doing their job to try and get me to come there, is doing what they need to do.
The program you most expect it from is not doing what they need to do," Hudson said. He added that Nebraska is the school doing what it needs to do, while LSU is the one falling short.
That matters because Nebraska has already stacked a strong 2027 group. Five-star quarterback Trae Taylor headlines the class, with blue-chip names like Tory Pittman, Khalil Taylor, Jordan Agbanoma, Corey Headley Jr., Timi Aliu, and Bryce Williams also in the fold. Hudson would take that class to another level.
The appeal for Nebraska goes beyond football, too. Hudson is a two-sport standout and a five-star basketball recruit, which gives the Huskers another lane to sell.
Nebraska has also shown it can develop tight ends, with Thomas Fidone and Nate Boerkircher both drafted, though Boerkircher later transferred to Texas A&M after spending most of his career in Lincoln. The Huskers already have depth at the position, but Hudson would be a major addition.
Basketball may be Nebraska’s strongest pitch. Hudson wants to play the sport at the next level, and the contrast between the two schools is obvious from last season.
LSU opened 8-0 but finished 15-17 and missed the postseason. Nebraska started 20-0, went 26-6 in the regular season, and reached the Sweet 16 before Iowa knocked it out.
Fred Hoiberg enters 2026-27 with Pryce Sandfort and Brandon Frager leading the way, and Nebraska expects to be a top-25 team again.
For Hudson, that gives Nebraska a real selling point. He could be a difference-maker for Matt Rhule’s football program and an impact player for Hoiberg’s basketball team. LSU still has the edge on the football side, with both teams going 7-6 in 2025, but Nebraska’s two-sport appeal is hard to ignore.
Hudson remains committed to LSU for now, but both Rhule and Hoiberg are still chasing him. If Nebraska keeps showing up on the recruiting trail - and backs it up with strong football in 2026 - the Huskers have a real shot at pulling off a flip that would matter in more than one sport.
