Nebraska made a strong impression on four-star edge rusher Arthur Jones IV during his first trip to Lincoln, and the Huskers now sit firmly in the mix for the 2028 prospect.
Jones, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound defender from Syracuse (N.Y.) Christian Brothers Academy, had spent months talking with Nebraska edge rushers coach Roy Manning over the phone before finally meeting him face-to-face on Saturday. That in-person connection mattered.
“It was great being able to finally put a face to the name,” he said. “Just really meeting who they are and speaking to them face-to-face, building that connection.”
The visit gave Jones his first look at Memorial Stadium, where Nebraska beat Maryland 48-23 to move to 5-0 for the first time in a decade. He came away impressed by the scene.
“It’s completely mind-blowing, being able to see a full stadium packed,” he said. “Seeing the balloons fly, the whole environment, just one of one.”
Jones has added a lot of size this offseason, and schools view him in different ways along the defensive line. Nebraska, though, sees him as a true edge rusher in Rob Aurich’s 4-2-5 scheme. While in town, Jones also met Anthony Jones Jr., and that stuck with him.
“They’re explosive, seeing them explode off the ball and being able to meet them,” he responded, of what caught his attention from the defensive front. “[Anthony] Jones Jr., being able to meet him and being able to see myself [in him] and the development he’s gone through.”
He also spent plenty of time around Manning and came away convinced Nebraska’s assistant knows how to get the most out of his players.
“He’s a defensive mastermind,” he said. “That pick by #93 [Kade Pietrzak], that’s just well called and well played out, he’s an amazing coach.”
Jones said Nebraska’s size surprised him, from the city of Lincoln to the campus itself.
“I didn’t think Nebraska was going to be that big,” he said. “I didn’t think the facility would be that big. When you think of Nebraska, you think of fields.”
A return trip is already on his mind, and he wants to see more when he gets back.
“I’m for sure coming in the spring. Want see [more] of what the environment is like and seeing what the day in the life of what my future could be
With playoffs approaching for Christian Brothers Academy, this could end up being Jones’ only visit of the season. The Syracuse legacy is the son of former NFL defensive lineman Arthur Jones and the nephew of former NFL all-pro defensive end Chandler Jones and former mixed martial artist Jon Jones.
Nebraska is competing with Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Ole Miss Oregon and Miami for his commitment, and while his process is still open, the Huskers clearly made a move.

Matt Rhules TV Appearance Has Nebraska Fans Arguing Over Nothing
Matt Rhules surprise cameo in the season finale of HBO Maxs Lanterns gave Nebraska fans something a little different to talk about during the offseason. The appearance was filmed likely well before the season got rolling, so it didnt interfere with his work getting the Cornhuskers ready, but it still landed with enough visibility to turn a routine TV credit into a fresh round of fan discussion.
The reaction online split quickly, with some Nebraska supporters wondering whether the timing was worth the distraction and others happy to see their coach pop up in a high-profile series. For a program where every bit of attention gets magnified, it was the kind of harmless side story that still manages to spark an argument, even if theres nothing much behind it. [Read more 🡒]
Indiana Will Help Reveal What Nebraskas Hot Start Really Means
Nebraskas 5-0 start has bought the Huskers some breathing room, but it has not answered every question about what this team really is. The early record is clean, and the resilience shown in the recent win over Maryland offered another sign that the group can handle a little pressure, yet there is still a sense that the offense and defense have not both hit their stride at the same time.
The next stretch of Big Ten play should make the picture clearer, starting with Indiana. That matchup figures to tell a lot about whether Nebraskas unbeaten beginning is built on something sustainable or whether the first month has simply masked the kind of inconsistency that tends to get exposed once the conference schedule settles in. Nebraska Is Building Real Momentum With A Major 2028 Tight End Target
Nebraskas push for 2028 tight end Max Jones is starting to look like a real early win for the Huskers on the recruiting trail. The Parkway West High School standout from Missouri recently visited Lincoln and came away with Nebraska squarely near the top of his list, a notable position this far out for a four-star prospect with plenty of time to sort through his options.
Jones still has multiple unofficial visits lined up at other schools during the 2026 season, and he already holds offers from several programs, so the race is only beginning to take shape. Even so, Nebraska has clearly made a strong impression early, which matters when a target at that level starts talking about a school as one of the places he wants to keep circling back to.
