Nebraska Just Got More Momentum From A Huge Recruiting Weekend

Nebraska's football program is generating buzz on multiple fronts, from recruiting wins and potential first-round draft picks to bowl game projections and key matchups.

Nebraska may have done enough against Indiana to keep turning heads in the 2028 recruiting class, and one name in particular keeps coming up: five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson.

Blue-chip safety Jordan Hicks is among the prospects who reportedly left impressed by the Huskers after the game. The logic is simple enough - a close loss to the defending national champions, paired with a loud home crowd, can still leave a strong impression on recruits.

Hudson, though, is the bigger swing. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound tight end was on campus for the Maryland game, and while LSU had seemed to have the edge afterward, the chatter around Nebraska has picked up.

A source told Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, “This kid loves this place. He wanted to come here before he went to LSU.”

Nebraska recruiting insider Tim Verghese added to that buzz by quote-tweeting a post about LSU losing an in-state commitment to Florida and saying he could see that number growing, a clear nod toward Hudson potentially flipping to the Huskers. With signing day less than two months away, that’s the recruiting storyline worth watching.

On the field, cornerback Andrew Marshall is building a serious NFL draft case. Against Indiana, he matched up with two elite receivers in Nick Marsh and Charlie Becker, and while Marsh’s fourth-quarter moment against Victor Evans grabbed attention, Marshall’s day was defined by what didn’t happen: production around him.

Becker’s 43-yard catch on the opening drive looked more like a breakdown than a win in coverage, and after that, he vanished from the game, according to NFL draft analyst Anthony Russo. Russo now sees Marshall as a first-round pick, and another strong showing against Oregon would only help his stock. Marshall also has a looming test next month against Jeremiah Smith in one of the season’s best receiver-cornerback showdowns.

Elsewhere, Nebraska bowl projections after Week 7 have the Huskers landing in a few different spots. ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach both have Nebraska in the Citrus Bowl against Tennessee, while CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford projects the ReliaQuest Bowl against Oklahoma.

Athlon Sports’ Steven Lassan also slots Nebraska into the ReliaQuest Bowl, but with Tennessee as the opponent. On3’s Brett McMurphy has the Duke’s Mayo Bowl against Duke, Sports Illustrated’s Bryan Fischer projects the Citrus Bowl against Ole Miss, College Football News has the Cactus Bowl against Oklahoma State, and RotoWire’s projection model sends Nebraska back to the Citrus Bowl against Tennessee.

Nebraska Now Faces A Real Illinois Quarterback Twist

Illinois quarterback situation has turned into one of the more relevant subplot for Nebraska as the Cornhuskers look ahead to a matchup that could still shift depending on how quickly Katin Houser heals. Houser suffered a broken hand and has already undergone surgery, with a recovery window of four to six weeks, which puts his status right on the edge of the Illinois-Nebraska game four weeks from now.

Michael Clayton II is the name to watch if Houser is not cleared in time, and that possibility changes the way Nebraska has to prepare for the Illini offense. Housers availability will shape the opponent the Cornhuskers actually see, and for now that uncertainty leaves Nebraska waiting on a decision that could alter the entire feel of the game. Anthony Colandrea Gave Nebraska Fans A Reason To Believe Again

Anthony Colandreas latest outing against Indiana gave Nebraska something it has been searching for: a quarterback performance that felt steady, urgent and worth building around. He flashed as a runner and a leader, and his presence helped the Cornhuskers play with a confidence that had been missing at times, even as the larger issues around the offense and the seasons bigger questions remain in place.

For a fan base that has spent years waiting for signs of real progress, Colandreas impact mattered beyond the box score. He helped shift the tone of the conversation around the program, showing a level of command that can travel into future weeks, even if Nebraska still has work to do before those encouraging moments start turning into something more lasting. Nebraska Fans Are About To Feel A Memorial Stadium Shakeup

Nebraska fans got a little good news on the ticket front this week, as Nebraska Athletics announced that the cost of a season ticket at Memorial Stadium will go down for most Husker football supporters next year. It is the kind of move that will draw attention quickly in Lincoln, especially with the program already asking fans to buy into a massive long-term vision for the building.

The University of Nebraska has already launched its $600 million renovation project, the Big Red Rebuild, and the timing makes the ticket announcement feel like part of a much larger reset around Memorial Stadium. Nebraska Athletics also shared a video with renderings of the planned redevelopment, giving fans a first look at what the stadium could become as the work moves forward. [Read more 🡒]
