Five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson is headed back to Lincoln, and this one caught plenty of people off guard.
The LSU commit will be at Nebraska this weekend for the Huskers’ matchup with Maryland, which starts at 3 p.m. CT.
Tim Verghese first reported the visit. For Hudson, it’s his fifth trip to Nebraska overall and his second since pledging to LSU on May 3.
That alone says a lot. Hudson has been committed to LSU for months, but Nebraska has never really disappeared from the picture. The 6-foot-6, 245-pound standout from Ruston, La., is ranked No. 18 nationally, No. 1 among 2027 tight ends and No. 3 in Louisiana by 247Sports, and the Huskers have continued to push.
Hudson made it clear back in August that another trip to Lincoln was on the table. Since then, he’s been around LSU a few times this season, but until now he hadn’t made his way back to Nebraska. This weekend changes that.
Nebraska’s interest hasn’t cooled, either. Keith Williams, the program’s Senior Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting, went to Ruston in the days after Hudson chose LSU.
The Tigers have the obvious advantages of proximity and family ties, since Hudson’s father played basketball there from 2002 to 2005. Even with that, Hudson has never publicly closed the door on Nebraska.
That was reflected in what he said after his official visit the weekend of June 5th-7th. When asked where the Huskers stood roughly five weeks after his LSU commitment, Hudson answered, "I'm gonna be completely honest: although I'm committed, Nebraska is right there. It's tough, but I kept my promise and made my way back up here," Hudson said.
Now he’s back again.
A big part of Nebraska’s staying power is his connection to the Huskers’ 2027 class, especially five-star quarterback and Nebraska commit Trae Taylor. Hudson and Taylor have known each other for a while, and that relationship has helped keep Nebraska in the conversation. On Hudson’s official visit, he was with 10 players who are now part of that class.
The Huskers have also sold him on a role that would maximize his versatility. The staff has pitched what it calls the "Ahmad Hudson position," a package built to move him around the formation at tight end, wide receiver and anywhere else the offense can create a mismatch.
That kind of flexibility fits Hudson perfectly. He caught 61 passes for 960 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior, and Nebraska views him as someone who could fill multiple spots in the offense.
Basketball is part of the equation too. Hudson is also a five-star power forward in the 2027 class, ranked No. 24 nationally, No. 3 at his position and No. 1 in Louisiana by 247Sports. Nebraska offered him in hoops, and the two programs’ directions matter here.
The Huskers are coming off a program-record 28-win season and their first-ever Sweet 16 appearance. LSU, meanwhile, finished 15-17 with only three SEC wins. For a two-sport recruit, that contrast matters.
Hudson will get another up-close look at Nebraska on game day, and with early signing day set for Dec. 4, there’s still plenty of time for this recruitment to keep moving. But one thing is clear: Nebraska is still very much in the mix.

Nebraska Volleyball Had Fans Cracking Up Over One Awkward Viral Moment
A recent Nebraska volleyball press conference produced the kind of awkward, funny moment that can take on a life of its own once it hits social media. A clip from the session featuring a Cornhuskers player quickly circulated online after she tried to compliment a teammates skill, calling it harder than expected and praising her ability to move the balls.
For a program already ranked No. 1 nationally, the viral moment was a reminder that even in a season built around expectations and polish, players still have to navigate live interviews in real time. Under John Cook, Nebraska has long been known for success on the court, but this was one of those off-court snippets that gave fans something lighter to latch onto while the bigger volleyball picture keeps rolling. Nebraska Suddenly Has A Backfield Concern Fans Didn't See Coming
Nebraskas backfield is starting to look a little thinner at the wrong time, with the latest injury report listing Mekhi Nelson as questionable ahead of the Maryland game and Jamal Rule still doubtful. For a team trying to keep its offense steady and its game plan balanced, even a couple of uncertain names in the running back room can change how the week is approached, especially when the Huskers are trying to stay ahead of the curve on both sides of the ball.
There is at least some good news on the horizon for the program, with Nebraska expected to host five-star EDGE recruit David Jacobs for a visit, a notable development on the recruiting trail. And across the athletic department, Nebraska volleyball kept rolling with a sweep of Penn State, extending its win streak and giving Dani Busboom Kelly her 250th career win, a reminder that the schools momentum is coming from more than one place. Maryland Faces A Bigger Question Than Nebraska This Week
Nebraskas fast start has turned a trip to College Park into more than just another conference game, because the Cornhuskers arrive at 4-0 after winning at Michigan State with a balanced effort on both sides of the ball. Anthony Colandrea helped drive the offense with two touchdown passes and plenty of production on the ground, while the defense made life miserable for the Spartans by piling up six sacks and forcing three turnovers.
Maryland, meanwhile, is the team with the heavier questions hanging over it as it prepares for Nebraska. The Terrapins have the kind of returning talent that should make them competitive, but injuries and uneven play have kept them from finding a steady rhythm, and the bigger issue has become whether the coaching staff can get more out of a roster that still has pieces worth watching.
